April 19th Dr. Paula Show: Dr. Cee Barnes-Boyd

April is National Minority Health Month! The theme for 2016 is “Accelerating Health Equity for the Nation”. The HSS Office of Minority health is inviting the nation to raise awareness of the health disparities that continue to affect racial and ethnic minorities and how we can work together to accelerate health equity.

In honor of national minority health month, The next Dr.Paula Show will feature Dr. Cynthia (Cee) Barnes-Boyd.  The show will air on April 19th at 11:00am. Dr. Barnes-Boyd will be discussing a number of topics including addressing health literacy when reaching out to diverse communities, promotion of health among those that are economically challenged, and social and cultural contributors to health disparities.

Dr. Cynthia (Cee) Barnes-Boyd is the Director of the Office of Community Engagement and Neighborhood Health Partnerships (OCEAN-HP) which

focuses on community engagement in service, research and education university/community partnerships.   She is a Senior Director for Mile Square Health Center with responsibility for the School Based Health Center Network and an Associate Clinical Professor in the School of Public Health and College of Nursing.   Dr. Boyd is also the Director of the UIC 

Healthy City Collaborative which brings together researchers and community partners that have an interest in community engaged or community participatory research.  Through the Collaborative, Dr. Boyd has served as a director, co-investigator or evaluation director for several community engaged research programs including the CDC supported REACH US and the Center for Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities.  She administers the USDA supported Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion, a city-wide nutrition education initiativefor low income families.  Her interest and research focuses on social and cultural contributors to health disparities, service utilization barriers and health problems of importance to racioethnic groups.
