Welcome back UIC students!! We only have four more weeks left in the school year and then we will be on our next phase of college and life. Time surely does go by quickly and this year has been a messy group of lessons. One of the biggest lessons learned this year was serving others, which I did over my spring break.
Instead of cathcing up on work or sleeping all week, I was in Berea, Kentucky helping to rebuild homes for needy families. The Christian Appalachian Project is a non- profit organization that focuses on the impoverished communities of the Appalachian mountains. With the help of volunteers and generous donations, they are able to serve hundreds of families in the Appalachain area each year.
While I was there, I was able to work with the Cain family rebuild their trailer home to have it restored to liveable condition. I was also able to work with students from other other schools including Drexel University, the University of Chicago, and Fairfield University. Though it is within the companies name, volunteers do NOT have to be Christain to be volunteers or show interest. you can learn more about the organization here. I promise you will not regret it!
