Have you seen it yet? If not, go watch this video first, and then come back to this blog. Here, I’ll even be so kind as to provide you with the direct link.
I love certain remixes that can successfully mash up an array of songs and play them back so fluidly you would almost believe they were all one song if you weren’t paying close enough attention. And this is one of those times.
(Anyone else think this title card resembles the movie poster for “Meet the Spartans?”)
The video used over 60 YouTube stars and alluded to more than 10 different viral videos of the year. Can you spot all of them?
What I like about this rewind is the fact that it not only acknowledges the big pop hits of 2013, but it also pays tribute to the viral videos of the year as well. In this technological day and age, music and video go together like peanut butter and chocolate. (Secretly judging those who don’t like Reese’s, by the way.)
Of course, after you watch it you have a moment where you just kind of sit there in front of your lap top with a glazed over, half open-mouthed expression on your face as you think, “What the @#!$ did I just watch?” But that is the beauty of the Internet, people. It doesn’t have to make sense.
It’s moments like this that make me reflect back upon 2013 and think about all of the crazy events that happened in pop culture these past 11 months. Without music or videos, where would this world be?
So I tip my hat off to you, 2013, for giving us prancing aerobics ladies and singing foxes and incinerating twerkathons and even a blackout Superbowl performance by the Queen B. It’s pretty clear that 2014 can only get bigger, crazier, and more bizarre from here.
P.S. Now I want a goat.
