30 Things to Make Your Life Interesting Again

Check off these 30 things and reap the blessings.

Then, your days will stop slipping through your fingers. Something intriguing will appear in your predictable routine. No need to wait until the weekend or summer.

You do not have to go to the other side of the world. You have not seen everything that is next ot you yet. Be a little more playful and curious.

Blend education with fun!

You will start to wonder what else you can experience. Because there is still so much to discover in the world, in your surroundings, and within yourself.

Find your own secret spot to sit alone

  • I have a couple on campus at UIC, and at a nature preserve by my house.

Start The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron

  • It is a 12-week “self-help” book that offers a path to unlock creativity through exercises and tools.

Practice yoga poses

  • Yoga taught me patience, precision, and self-control. It stretches you out, improves longevity, strengthens your body, and calms your mind. Yoga poses can be very challenging and test our endurance.

Spend a long time making meals

  • Put your phone away, focus on what you are adding to your meal, with what intention, and how you are actually nourishing your body.

Listen to the Sex and the City theme song

  • I listen to this song while I walk and while I get ready. (I do this very often and affirm that I am a great writer and will be able to afford living in New York).

Personalize your belongings

  • (Phone case, journal, laptop, keychain).

Plan a little trip

  • Experience another city (even just the town next over) and act like a tourist.

Read a book under a tree

  • I love doing this!

Find a director whose films you need to catch up on

  • Have a big movie marathon.

Start your day with a sun salutation

  • For one week.

Write a poem

  • For someone you love (or for yourself).

Create a small garden

  • In your backyard, even on your balcony. Give something life.

Leave a note in a book at a bookstore

  • Leave a wish for the person who buys it

Organize a party

  • A fragrance party (everyone brings their favorite perfume/cologne), a tea party (everyone brings their favorite tea), or a decades-themed party.

Delve into your family tree

  • See who your ancestors were.

Turn your bedroom into your sanctuary

  • Add things that are unique to you.

Think about where you have always wanted to go

  • (But never had anyone to go with). An art gallery, to the movies for a specific film, to a café, to a live music show, etc. Go!

Look for someone on PenPalWorld

  • (Or in letter-writing groups). Exchange letters or postcards.

Create a mood board featuring your monthly favorites

  • All the things, places, and songs.

Go to the library

  • Run your fingers along the spines of the books without looking at the titles and pause your hand on the one that feels like “the one”.

Go back to your childhood

  • Eat what you used to love, watch your favorite movie or cartoon, wear your favorite color, or go to a place that holds sentimental value for you.

Write a story

  • Where the characters are the people you met today on a train, at a café, or on the street.

Find a new scent for yourself

  • One that reflects your personality (I recommend diving deeper into perfumery in general). Check out fragrance notes on Fragrantica.

Choose a new book to read

  • Cut out little slips of paper with titles, put them in a bowl, and pick one with your eyes closed.

Do a major clutter of your belongings

  • Give things away, sell them on Vinted. We often hold onto stuff we do not use that others could love. Think about how you would feel if you bought or received a real gem.

Look for niche creators

  • Who deserve more exposure (on YouTube, etc)

Try out some recipes

  • I am sure you have numerous recipes saved in your phone’s gallery or on TikTok for great coffee, homemade ice cream, or bread, but you have never actually made any of them. New flavors equal new experiences!

Decide that every book you read from now on will be by an author from a different country

  • Do not repeat countries!

Find a source that will actually educate you

  • It could be a wildlife program, a podcast about space, a history lecture, a video essay on fashion, but something from which you will gain real knowledge and learn more each time. If it is auditory, play it while you are out on a walk, while cleaning, or on your way somewhere.

Last but not least,

Do something you have been holding back from out of fear

  • Maybe it is because “you are not good enough,” “it is not the right time,” You are ready!! Now, send that message, start a blog, get a new haircut, sign up for French classes (wink), go somewhere new, etc.

Get up and do something. Be responsible for your own life. Do not simply sit back and let it pass you by. Pay attention to every day that comes and goes. Think of this as another chance to do something special.

With love,

Kierstyn
