A Painting I Saw For the First Time

Fall is never really a season that I physically experienced any time before- back home, it was mostly a chill breeze that would accompany a cloudy or azure, cloudless sky, and the trees would never show the colors that went on inside their heads. Yesterday, I stepped outside in the evening, and somehow, I felt like I was transported into the brushstrokes of a painting. I am not sure how I didn't notice it, but the trees breathing on carpets of grass strewn with dry leaves and pinecones had suddenly dressed themselves up in so many beautiful hues- it was the first time I saw such a sight through my eyes, at that place, instead of through my phone. Red, yellow, orange and changing green dotted the leaves of all the trees that lined the road. How pretty it looks!

Seeing such a landscape for the first time made me reminisce about all of the 'first times' that we all experience in our lives, like riding a bicycle, or going down the slides and flying on the swings at a park, or going to school, or making a new friend, all for the first time, and the thrill and excitement we felt when we did these things.

When we see or do something for the first time, we often feel energized, and maybe a bit of 'I am not sure how this is gonna turn out'- it's always mixed with that uncertainty. I think that that uncertainty never vanishes- no matter how many times we repeat and familiarize ourselves with anything, be it new people, the friends we already have, or the routines that we set for our lives, it's not that the uncertainty is completely eliminated. It's more like we become comfortable with the known and the unknown of things.

Each new day always comes with a tinge of unpredictability, but what makes every day special and enjoyable is looking at everything around us as though it is the first or the last time we would ever see it. That sort of mindset is something that motivates us to try all the things that we wished we would do but hesitated to try. It's also what helps us take all the bad things that happen sometimes in stride, with a smile. Think about all of the 'first times' that you had and see- It's what will make us look forward to each new day in exactly the way it is- a new day!

What does the fall season make you think about?

I feel like nature is telling us that there will be both ups and downs in life.
