A Recommendation You Didn't Ask For: Clarion

Welcome back to another post of Beyond Myself. I've lowkey been spamming music recommendations, and that's on me. I've got bad time management, and these are usually quick and easy so I can abuse myself with my engineering work instead. I'm gonna try and get ya'll some variety, so don't crucify me quite yet.

Anyways, here's another recommendation you didn't ask for.

So honestly, most of you might already know of this band or at least their most popular song, "Hello Juliet". It was all over TikTok for a while, and if you're a fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, then you definitely will recognize this song. I'm breaking niche gatekeeping code and must admit, I only got put onto this band once they started being put with Sendai Colony edits for JJK. You've likely seen this song paired up with the fight between Ryu and Yuta, pre and post their fight being animated, and for a solid couple of months, this song hit TikTok editors like crack in the 80s. No complaints over here though.

Clarion blew up significantly post their song blowing up over TikTok and good for them. Overnight, they became a huge name. I personally saw them when they began touring and came to Chicago. From what I saw, they were pretty much exclusively local to LA up until this point and it was dope that they finally had the chance to tour across the nation.

Unfortunately, you could sorta tell that most people were there just for "Hello Juliet", and while I mean I get wanting to hear their most popular song, they have an entire discography excluding that one song. Other than that though, that show was dope.

Hence, this post/recommendation. I wanted to shed some light on their album Blue Fairy, released in 2026. It's 6 songs long and runs about 18 minutes, and also their 4th album. It's a really nice, short grunge-gaze/shoegaze album with a hyper yet solemn feel. If you need some reference, some of their inspirations are Sonic Youth, HUM, Julie, Dinosuar Jr, and Fennel, just to name a few.

Personally, my favorite songs from this album are the self-titled, "Blue Fairy", and "Media Mediocracy". It's much slower than what you may expect if you're coming from "Hello Juliet," but it definitely has its own place in my playlist.

Another reason this band is coming into the limelight is that they have gotten into some controversy, and unfortunately idk the future of this band as of right now. In case you're not chronically online, the gist is that the lead singer is accused of cheating on her partner and former drummer with a newer member that she essentially replaced the old guy with. I'm not sure of all the details, so take what I say with a grain of salt and do your own research, but it does suck that the band may or may not end due to this.

Anyways, give them a listen besides their most popular song. Let's larp a little less.
