A Recommendation You Didn't Ask For: Incert Coin
Welcome back to the 2nd post for Beyond Myself this semester. Quick update, I did away with the dedicated insta page since I kept forgetting about it, but now I'm just keeping both me and blog me on my insta.
In other news, somebody turn down the damn AC on the world, please. There's never a valid reason as to why I'm dripping with sweat as soon as I step foot outside. I'm out here slipping and sliding to class, and that can't be appropriate. Anyways, new blog below, and make sure you put on that deodorant if you're on campus.
As the title says, I know nobody asked me, but let me put ya'll onto some peak.
Incert Coin is a Trinidad and Tobago originated band that formed in 1999. So far, they've released 5 albums, but today I will be talking about their 2006 release, Futility. They're one of the longest-lasting bands in the Trinidadian rock scene, and yet almost nobody I know has heard of them, and the internet is essentially barren of info. Thus, the whole reason I'm writing this. Futility deserves so many more ears than it's getting.
This album is what I would consider "divorced dad rock/metal", think Staind, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Chevelle (PEAK!). Granted, maybe a little heavier than those, but you get the idea. Or, for another frame of reference, since I'm so considerate. If you were on early YouTube/LimeWire, recall those Dragon Ball AMVs where Linkin Park or another similar band played while showing extremely pixelated DBZ. Regardless, those did go platinum in this household.
This is rock/metal (is it bad that I sort of don't know the difference?) in its most unpretentious form. Truthfully, this album doesn't break away from the mold much, but it doesn't need to. It sticks to the heavenly voice plus heavy riff combo for 90% of the album and every time it bangs; and I know bangers. Of course, shoutout to frontman James Amow and his amazing vocals. He clearly has a vast vocal range and thankfully for my ears, he uses the entirety of it. We can't forget the guitarists, bassist, and drummer either, they're definitely pulling their weight here.
Side note: During my research for this post, I believe I stumbled upon Mr. Amow's LinkedIn. Goes to show how little this band gets covered unfortunately. Nothing notable here, I just wanted to put that out there. That's the level of obscurity we're working with here.
Anyways, this album rocks. It's real "sit in the garage and do some damage to a 12 pack" core, and you know what? Hell yeah.
Personally, my favorite song off the album is "Reborn". It's the first song off the 13-track album and a perfect intro to what you're gonna hear for the next 12 songs. Though if you don't listen to entire albums, my personal song recommendations, in ranked order are:

Their other albums are just as good, but I wanted to highlight my personal fav album of theirs.
