All Love @ The Whistler

Have you ever had such an amazing night out that you have to genuinely tell everyone about it? When you turn 21, the city of Chicago is basically your playground for a night out. Between going to clubs in River North or going to dive bars in Lincoln Park, it could be hard to find something in between. I believe my personal favorite kind of place is something in between. A bar with a good DJ and people dancing everywhere. This is truly how I felt about the night I had at Whistler for their "All Love" event, hosted by DJ Loveandalchemy and DJ Drishay Menon. It is hosted either at Whistler or Blind Barber every 2nd Saturday of the month.

I went the most recent night with two friends after finding the event on Instagram. I've heard many good things about Whistler through social media posts, and I was excited to see it for myself.

The night we went, the featured DJ was 1981 Tokyo Music. I always feel like I need to get the vibe of a DJ before going to an event, so I checked out his Instagram. Seeing a pinned video of him taking over Soulection Radio in 2023, which was created by Joe Kay, solidified for me that this was an event we had to go to.

All three of us were very excited for this event, but we truly had no clue what to expect. I've never really had a night solely out in Logan Square, and neither did they. We realized that we had to arrive early for this event, which started at 10 pm. We got there around 10:30 pm. There was a line, but it was a maximum of 15 minutes. This was the perfect amount of time to take photos, do touch-ups, and also ask people in line for their opinions. The impression we got from most people was that we would have a great time, and they were all right.

Once we got inside, all you see is a red light overshadowing the room. Every single person is dancing or mingling with each other. We saw people dancing behind the DJ booth and decided to just start dancing to the music. At first, we thought you had to be close to the DJ to go behind the DJ booth. I asked around to 2 people, and everyone said yes, but I couldn't believe it. The very last person I asked screamed "YES" and pulled me onto the stage to dance. Once my homegirls and I got on the stage, there was truly no way to get us off. We truly danced for almost 2 hours straight. First, it was DJ KZMO playing all the best tracks; we were screaming lyrics and dancing. Then DJ Loveandalchemy came on and played many songs, but I believe he played a SZA remix, which had me personally screaming every word. He also had a very helpful fan (I typically carry my own, but it just broke. We later went to check out their beer garden, and we all had the Island Time Cocktail, which was very tasty.

By the time we got back, it was DJ 1981 Tokyo Music, and we had a ball. We were dancing and singing with strangers. Passing around the huge fan so everyone had air. We were also singing to the crowd. The hardest part of the night was finding the right time to leave. We left the stage but couldn't leave the dance floor. Now, they both didn't know "Omen" by Disclosure ft. Sam Smith, so they thought it was a good time to leave. Sadly, though, I did, so we had to stay so I could sing my heart out. I also high-fived the DJ because I love Disclosure. We probably had one of the best nights we have ever had in the city. I suggest people go to the next event but just make sure I can be there.
