Alysa Liu makes figure skating look effortless. Liu was the youngest figure skating champion in 2019 at the age of 13 to win a title. After this, she walked away from figure skating, only to return and win Olympic figure skating gold 24 years later.
Her comeback has been iconic. She decided to take full creative control over her performances. I love that she is just being herself while also being one of the most skilled athletes in the world. She has done performances on Promise by Laufey, MacArthur Park " by Donna Summer, and my personal favorite that she just did is Stateside by PinkPantheress and Zara Larson. This one she skated for her victory lap after she won Gold, and she looked so cute doing it.

I am obsessed with her hair!! Like, how does her halo highlight look good in every performance? Fun fact, she started dying them at home while she was in retirement. Her retirement was a great opportunity for her to live a normal college life. She earned her degree in Psychology from UCLA.
She is also part of a trio called the Blade Angels, alongside teammates Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito. There are a bunch of clips of them shadowboxing the cameras behind the scenes, which is so funny.

Olympic champion, Aly Raisman, called Alysa's victory "healing". Alysa is clearly choosing joy through the sport, and that is how she is excelling. She is an example to the world that you can be the best without losing yourself to the sport.
So, if you haven't been watching Alysa Liu, watch her because she is the first to make the Olympics appear like a hobby she shines in, not because she is a champion, but because she left the sport to rediscover herself and returned to outperform everyone :)
