Bands to Watch For: UnSun

As you all know by now, I am a huge fan of rock…and not just any rock!

Gothic and symphonic rock combine orchestral tracks, operatic and choir vocals, the occasional screamo and haunting melodic elements to create genres that bring together a lot of the amazing variety music has to offer.

Evanescence achieved first place in my heart not only because it originated from the U.S. (unlike 95% of all amazing gothic/symphonic rock bands!) but it is also me and my dad’s favorite group to bond over.

However, there are a lot of other great bands out there. I was just introduced to Unsun, a Polish band that started up relatively recently (2006) with husband-and-wife Maurice and Anna Stephanowicz. The band consists of a vocalist (Anna), lead guitar (Maurice), bass guitar (Patryk Malinowski) and drums (Wojtek Błaszkowski).

They’ve got a very gothic sound, again combining the elements of great bands such as Within Temptation, Nightwish and Flyleaf with their orchestral tracks, lyrical melodies, and strong female vocalists.

One of my favorite tracks is Bring Me To Heaven. Listen below!

Its softer piano-and-percussion intro reminds me a lot of some of Evanescence’s quieter songs and has a really nice sound contrast. See more here.
