Better Luck Next Time

I had a whole other, long thing planned out for this week’s blog. I’m sad about it because I really was excited to write it. I had started writing it, but by the time I had, the week was already almost over. My deadline was looming, and I’d given myself too big a task for the amount of time I had left. This was one of the big things that I wanted to stay away from this semester. But it’s still the beginning of the semester. I have time to figure it out. This blog is only my fourth for this semester. I have over two months of opportunities to make up this procrastination. But this still feels like a big, ‘oh no, I’ll never get over this!!!’ thing for me every time.
This was the first week of school that I finally really felt like I was getting on track. I played catch up most of the week, on top of studying for my first two exams. I had a surprisingly large amount of homework this week that totally stole me away from everything else in my life. But I’m caught up now and have one out of the two exams taken. That feels really good.
Figuring out how writing my blog for the radio was one of my big scheduling question marks last semester as well. I found myself scrambling in the last two days to think of something short I could write because all of my initial ideas would take too long. Blogging isn’t homework, but it’s still something that’s due that I have to turn in. I thought I’d gotten down at some point during my freshman year, but it turns out that I had not. At least I’m catching it now.
I don’t know what I’m going to write next week yet, but I’m gonna task myself with starting it on Monday. Having the full week to work on something is so much less stressful than my current method of waiting until, at the earliest, Thursday to work on my writing. I’m hoping that there will be a little lull in school-related craziness after the beginning of next week until midterms. I’m really hoping that that’s not wishful thinking.
It’s really easy for me to get caught up in a negative, and not realize that I can try again, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Even though it took me longer than I’d like to make these realizations, I’m still glad they occurred to me instead of me just wallowing in what felt like failure, even though it was just procrastination. It feels really good to be able to look back on something that I wish I’d done and discover that I can just try it again.
