C2E2 is For Everyone!

Posted on April 02, 2019

I take a look at Chicago’s biggest comic convention!

The weekend of March 22nd-24th was the 10th anniversary of C2E2 here in Chicago! For those unfamiliar with C2E2, C2E2 stands for Chicago Comic Entertainment Expo. It’s Chicago’s biggest comic convention. This was the 10th year anniversary of it, and my 7th year going. For the 10 year anniversary, there were some big names who showed up. The biggest name on the list was probably Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Clueless, Anchorman). Some other big names included, David Tennant (the 10th Doctor), John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Arrow), Donald Faison (Clueless, Scrubs), and Alicia Silverstone (Clueless). The cast of the original Power Rangers was also there. Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool was there as well. Many other actors were there as well, including many voice actors such as Nolan North, Tress Macneille, Jess Harnell, Rob Paulsen, Jennifer Hale and many more. There’s pretty much always someone there at least someone will be interested in seeing. There was a Clueless reunion panel this year as well with Paul Rudd, Alicia Silverstone, Donald Faison and Breckin Meyer. I am not a huge Clueless fan, but people who did go and saw the panel enjoyed it. The famous people that come to this convention, like any convention really, sign autographs, do photo ops, talk on panels, and interact with fans.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer Hale this year. Jennifer Hale has done many voices in games and shows, with her most recent being Ashe in the Blizzard game Overwatch. However, my favorite character of hers is female Commander Shepard from the Bioware game series Mass Effect. I got both an autograph and a selfie and got to have a bit of a conversation with her. I didn’t really talk though because I geeked out hard, but she complimented my hair! It’s always nice being able to meet someone you like and know that they are actually a nice person in real life!

The floor of the convention is also a big deal. This is where vendors set up shop, and where attendees can go shopping. I always buy way more than I need, but it’s all so cool and pretty I can’t help myself. It definitely takes multiple walkthroughs to take everything in. This was also my first year walking through Artist Alley. Artist Alley is seperate from the vendors part of the floor. This is where artists set up shop to sell original artwork, of your favorite characters.

I went through this year to meet the lovely Babs Tarr. She has illustrated comics, but I am a fan of hers thanks to Critical Role, and her show on their channel, Pub Draw. I got a Jester print she made, and got a selfie! She was super sweet! I also stopped by a few other booths to find the perfect Critical Role art I wanted. I found it at another booth in Artist Alley!

Cosplay is a huge part of comic conventions. I do not have the time to create a costume, so I just wore a nerdy shirt instead. I appreciate all the work that does go into cosplay however, and will always take a pic of the ones I like (I always ask first)! It’s cool to see how people change up characters outfits, or how they keep to the original. There are definitely crossovers you never think would work, but do. Also, I apperciate the signs around the floor that remind people that “cosplay is not consent”, because sadly some people forget that!

So, if you are a huge geek, like me, and anyone else that goes to a comic convention, check out C2E2. The prices aren’t bad, and it’s been growing every year, but be prepared to spend a lot of money, and to walk around one day! Comic con days are the best days of the year!

Til next year C2E2!
