With the recent lineup announcement for the Chicago International Film Festival I've be pouring over my schedule trying to see what screening fit (hint: It's none of the cool ones). But while going through their catalogue I've found some really cool things that I'm going to highlight below!

1) Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc

I'm a diehard Chainsaw Man fan, so naturally I'm excited for this one. I don't want to say too much because it's the middle of the story but Chainsaw Man is the best anime from the past few years.

2) Breathless

I am also a Godardhead so this is right up my alley, this film did come out in 1960 but Richard Linklater's homage film (Nouvelle Vague) is showing alongside it. I don't care at all about Nouvelle Vague, but I think seeing Breathless in theaters would be fun even if it isn't my favorite Godard (That would be King Lear). Maybe also see Nouvelle Vague out of curiosity but why do that when it's going to be a Netflix release.

3) A Brief History of Storm Chasing

This documentary about Storm Chasing will have the director in attendance if you are interested in that. As a big tornado movie fan (Twister is one of my top 10) this one caught my interest hook line and sinker so you may catch me at one of these screenings.

4) Magellan

This one could be interesting, by Filipino director Lav Diaz about Ferdinand Magellan, the guy who was really into colonization for Spain. The film is about his colonial exploits, which in my opinion as an Asian Studies major, is an under-taught and overlooked part of history.

5) Palestine 36

Another historical pick, this one is about a Palestinian rebellion against British colonial activity in the 1930s. Again, another overlooked period of history, centering a myriad of characters within the rebellion and outside of it.

Now there are so many more films showing and I'd highly encourage checking some of them out (Also the Criterion Truck might be around) you can find the full program on the Chicago International Film Festival Website
