Club going up, on a Thursday

Hi y'all :)

Welcome back!

This time around, I had a bit more of a mellow week. I don't have any back-to-back partying to blog about, but I gotta take the opportunity to write about some of the fun I came across.

I went out to see one show: on THURSDAY! My friend Care played at Smartbar. For anyone who hasn't been, it's like a club that's underneath the Metro in Wrigleyville. They have a lot of great music there, so it was really cool to see her and Mina Mills play (another talented local performer).

I got there really early, so the three of us hung out and caught up, talked about haircuts, wages, gossip... the usual.

They were going at it the same time as the Bladee concert over at Salt Shed, so it was pretty mellow for a while. We were afraid it was gonna be a flop! However, as the night progressed, more people trickled in.

Here's a quick bit I got of Mina's set:

And here's a video of Care's:

I honestly much preferred the Smartbar Thursday experience to a Friday or Saturday show. For starters, the tickets were 5 bucks for students (compared to 25 on the weekend ), and the dance floor is much less crowded, so I could be a safety hazard without worrying about bumping into people. It was a friendlier setting then the last time I went, for the most part. My only complaint is that I got my flask confiscated (I was using it as a water bottle, I swear!) and the security dude said I had to buy water at the bar.

I was already out of cash :((

Like maybe I'm just used to house shows but I feel like if people are gonna be dancing all night then water should be free :/ idk

Thankfully, my friend Penny let me use her water :) shout out Penny ily <3

The show ended around two AM, and it was POURING RAIN. My roommate originally wanted to bike all the way home ((to Bridgeport from Wrigley !! Hell naw )), but thankfully they were able to crash at their parents.

Lucky for me, I got a ride home with Care and the homies. In the car, she talked about her highkey stressful experience playing, apparently she wanted to end her set at 45 minutes (she usually does really fast paced sets) but the people at Smartbar wanted her to go for longer. I guess the equipment setup wasn't all that great for improvising, but she did a great job regardless. As someone in the audience, I couldn't tell!

I guess you can never really know what's happening until someone explains it...

But yeah that was the only night out I had. Thank god. I spent the following weekend chilling, reading comics, watching anime, cooking, etc. Twas a good time, and much needed.

Sure made the cat happy :3

Bye y'all! See ya next week...

-MH
