F.I.G by Naomi Scott (album review)

(Photo from Live Nation)

Hello everyone!

A long train or car ride can be exhausting and tiring, but it is also the best time to listen to a new album.

This album was promoted heavily by many online praising the work and sound of the album, I figured that I had to check it out.

Naomi Scott released her debut album F.I.G (Fall Into Grace) on March 20th. She is best known for her acting roles in Aladdin and Lemonade Mouth, but this is a new realm we are seeing her in. The album can be described as an 80s inspired, playful pop album. It is an album that is very light and enjoyable.

I want to highlight some of the songs from the album that I believe are worth a listen.

Starting Track - Hellbent

The best way to describe this song is a coming-of-age movie scene where the main character will keep chasing their love interest. It's very addicting and freeing. The lyrics that stood out to me were "Now I'm hell-bent. To Find my way back to you 'cause I'm selfish. And you're everything I want so I'll be relentless"

Stand out Track - Bound

It can be described as a smooth R&B track that is taps into Scott's emotional side as she is "bound" to a partner and will always navigate any issues with the partner. Lyrics that stood out to me were "Only one I'm bound to. I'm gonna find my way with you. Even when it's hard to, I'm gonna find my way with you." I feel like in a current time where many people are afraid to show their feelings or emotions to a significant, Scott shows listeners that emotional vulnerability and passion for a lover can be normalized.

Comfort Track - Best Kind

It is described as a track that is about self-acceptance and self-love. The sound and production of the track is honestly what drew me into loving the sound. The synth and strings in the song pulls you in. It builds up into with how others may describe Scott. Then she accepts herself, you can hear feel how she accepts herself for who she is as she says "Baby, I'm the best kind." This was the track I replayed the most during my train ride.

Many have described this album as one of the best albums to be released in 2026, now I'll get back to that point by the end of the year. She also will be performing in Chicago June 14th. for anyone that wants to see her live. Naomi Scott has introduced us to her artistry in her compelling debut album. I believe that there is at least one song that anybody will like from this album if not the entire thing. I will definitively keep this album in my rotation for 2026.
