Fictional Fashion Icons

My personal style has always been heavily influenced by characters in movies and shows. I really love how a character's wardrobe captures their personality, making each outfit intentional and unique to their style. Most of my fictional fashion influencers are from 2010s media, since that's what I grew up watching. I tried to condense the list to my top five, but these are in no particular order!

Peyton Sawyer - One Tree Hill

Although I only watched four seasons of One Tree Hill, Peyton Sawyer was easily one of the most fashionable characters on the show. Her style embodies the classic "rockstar girlfriend" aesthetic, and she's always listening to heavy metal and wearing leather jackets. I love how she layers and sticks to a dark neutral palette, even when she's dressing for formal events. If her character wasn't so insufferable, she'd definitely be my favorite in the show.

Bella Swan - Twilight

My personal style is so similar to Bella Swan's, so I always love rewatching the Twilight movies for fashion inspiration. She's also an expert at layering, incorporating button-ups and flannels in most of her outfits. I love how low effort her style is, sticking to comfortable clothes and shoes while still being fashionable. Bella inspired me to buy brown corduroy jackets, which I genuinely wear all the time!

Jenny Humphrey - Gossip Girl

Another insufferable character with devastatingly great taste. In the luxurious Upper East Side of Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphrey has her distinct punk/alternative style while still being chic and designer. I really love her monotone wardrobe and how she adds depth with layers and accessories. She also always wears heels, no matter the outfit, which makes her so much more stylish. If her character in Gossip Girl wasn't physically painful to endure, I would like her so much more. I also think I'd dress a lot like her if I were fabulously wealthy and bold.

Geet - Jab We Met

Jab We Met is my childhood favorite Bollywood movie by far. I love Geet's colorful, passionate personality and how it's reflected in her wardrobe. She blends South Asian and Western fashion so seamlessly, wearing traditional kurtis with flared jeans and colorful scarves with Y2K tops. I'm obsessed with her outfits and love wearing Pakistani tops with denim jeans in her honor. Her style is as free-spirited and bold as her character, and I truly aspire to be more like her!

Monica Geller - Friends

I really love how Monica dresses to her color palette, deep winter, by pairing bold colors with dark ones. Red and burgundy suit her so well, and she wears similar shades of lipstick to match. I also really like her variety of sweaters and cardigans and how she dresses them down or up depending on the occasion. She also sticks to a clean silhouette, making her outfits look structured and stylish.

Overall, I love how these characters reflect their personality through their wardrobe. Their outfits feel intentional and inspire me to try new colors and layering styles myself. With winter around the corner, I'm super excited to wear colorful sweaters and scarves! Thanks for reading and check out the Off the Record Instagram: @off.the.record.blog
