“I’m majoring in Russian Culture, so reading about it.”
“Are you or your family originally from Russia?”
“No, Russia’s my adopted culture, I’m a Polak.”
“What would you consider to be the greatest accomplishment of your life so far?”
“Ahh…I would say that the greatest accomplishment of my life have all been failures. All of them. But you learn from failures, that’s what Hegel calls ‘Determinate Negation.’ It’s when you fail but there is progression at the same time.”
He’s right, we learn the most through our failures and it is really important to acknowledge this fact. Instead of beating yourself up and feeling pathetic due to some kind of failure in your life, it’s best to learn from it and progress through it. This is good to keep in mind, especially since finals are coming up. Many of us are in this situation at the moment:
But really what we could be doing is approaching everything with a strong head, keeping calm and doing the best we can. And trust me, that makes a difference, and that will get you places.
