Is Cher the True Dancing Queen?

Cher is back, this time covering ABBA!

For those of you out of the loop, the amazing Cher has finally released her ABBA cover album “Dancing Queen.” It was

promoted after her appearance in, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and her single, ‘Fernando,’ from the film was released.

The album starts with, ‘Dancing Queen,’ and is an amazing electronic cover with Cher’s deep voice. It breathes new life into

the song. Gimme Gimme Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) is an electronic masterpiece. (If this song doesn’t make you

want to dance, then nothing will.) The Name of the Game is a slower, much more melodic piece, with the lyrics changed from

“curious” to “bashful” which still fits well. SOS is a fun dancing tune as well. The two best songs on this album however, are

Waterloo and Mamma Mia. I am partly biased to Waterloo however, because it is one of my favorite ABBA songs, but I

digress. It starts with some great electronic beats, and is a fun, dance-around-the-house-song. Mamma Mia is the same way.

Both are ABBA classics that Cher has done wonders to! The rest of the album is much slower, with Chiquitita, and Fernando.

Fernando was in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and it was the second best scene in the whole movie. (When Cher stepped

out of the helicopter, and you saw her for the first time, that was the best scene). Both are great covers with her deeper voice,

and electronic undertones. The Winner Takes It All and One of Us close out the album with you wanting more. All the songs

keep their original charm, just with some added electronica and danceability.

All in all, Cher did an amazing job, and we deserve a second cover album, with more ABBA faves. I love ABBA, but I think

Cher may have beat ABBA at their own game, and did somewhat better versions of their songs. Many of these songs, were also

featured in at least one of the Mamma Mia! movies. Cher also uses autotune at times, but it suits her cause she is Cher and

can do whatever she wants. If this album doesn’t make you want to dance around your house, singing at the top of your lungs,

then I don’t know what to tell you.

I feel like Cher just saved 2018 with this ABBA cover album.

Please listen to it, and if you have, continue to dance and sing as you please!

Rating: 9/10.

(and yes, Cher may be the true dancing queen, but deep down, we’re all dancing queens inside!)
