january recap

Similar to what I did in October, I plan on doing my music wrapped for the month of January. I will say one of the reasons other than a bit of writer's block for why I decided to write about this is the fact that it was incredibly surprising to me. I will say none of the top 5 artists I would've been able to accurately predict at all. As for the songs, I may have been able to predict one or two but maybe not in order. Now as for the month of January I started off the year with 3,160 minutes of music listened to, have listened to over 250 songs, and roughly 100 artists, according to the stats on Apple Music. That being said I have some beef with apple music, I feel like the stats it shows is not accurate at all. Mainly because my entire year of 2025 recap it seems like it was horribly inaccurate of my top songs, artists, and minutes listened to in the year. But that's neither here nor there, I just mainly take the stats it tells me with a grain of salt.

As for my number one artist for the month it was Magdalena Bay with about 388 minutes listened to. I truthfully didn't think I listened to the iconic duo that much in the past month, or at least to make them my number one. They make great music and one of my current favorites is their most recently released single "This is the world (I made it for you)." But theres only two songs within my top 10 songs by this artist, both from the album Imaginal Disk, at number 4 for songs of January is "Cry for me," and at number 9 "Love is everywhere," which is surprising because although they're great songs, I wouldn't say they're personally even in my top three songs on the album
My number 2 most listened to artist for the month was Malcolm Todd with 280 minutes. This was also a bit surprising, I definitely wouldn't have been surprised if he was in my top 10 for the month, but the placement was what was most shocking. Three of his songs were in my top 10 for the year. In third place there was "Walk to Class," for my number 5 song "4me 4me," and for my number 10 song it was "Who's the Fool." I will say the rotation of those three is most likely what I would have predicted if I knew three of his songs were in my top three, but truthfully not in that order. I would have expected "who's the fool," to be listened to the most of the three since that is probably my favorite of his, or at least my favorite from his new album.

At number 3 for my most listened to artist for the month was Dominic Fike with 270 minutes.. This one isn't too surprising, I will say I would have expected the placement a little lower, but after seeing my top ten songs it adds up. Three of my songs in my top ten are by Dominic Fike, all of which are from his 2025 album Rocket. In spot 6, "All hands on deck," which is my favorite of his right now, and since he teased it his lolla set last year I already knew I was going to love it, because I love the opening verses.. In spot 7, "David Lyons," and in spot 8 "One glass." Truthfully this is a pretty accurate representation of the exact order of my top three songs on the album"
My 4th most listened to artist of the month was Solya, with 230 minutes. This wasn't too surprising as I knew she would be somewhere in the top 5 for my artists of the month. She in fact had my number one most listened to song of the month, with over 30 plays, which I quickly fell in love with following it's release on January 7th of this year, "Tell me it's over," it really reminds me of another one of my favorites by her. Which was actually my number 2 most listened to song "19," before her new release this was in fact my favorite.
And finally for my 5th most listened to artist, which was completely unexpected, Frank Ocean, with 148 minutes . I love him don't get me wrong, but I feel like I barely listened to him at all for the month, and my top songs reflect that. None of his songs were nowhere near my top ten, in fact none of his songs were in my top thirty. So this is truthfully a little bit of evidence of why I think Apple Music tends to be inaccurate, because although I love him dearly, none of my most listened to songs reflect listening to him enough during the month of January.
But that is all for my January recap of music, and for the first time in a while, all ten of my top ten songs are all made by my top five artists, or I suppose top four artists since Frank didn't make any of them.
Tune in next week, for a hopefully more exciting blog and hopefully no writers block
