Live Life Regardless of Your Ailments

Hi blog. My 9 am class was canceled today, so I’m blogging instead. I should be brainstorming for my next project, I guess, but I’m just gonna wait until I go home this weekend to work on it. I’m going home for the first time in a month, which is kind of shocking since my hometown is only an hour or so away. I’m too caught up with life here. I’ve been feeling very uninspired, but still happy. I feel very gross today. It’s overcast and muggy out, in October…bleak. I’m recovering from an allergy-related cold that I get every fall. I’m all stuffy and fatigued.

I was supposed to have dinner with my mom last Friday, but we skipped it so I could “rest up”. Instead of resting, I went out all day all weekend… Regardless, I had so much fun. Friday, I slept almost the whole day. Saturday, my beloved UIC radio had a group retreat. A little mixer, if you will. I made more friends than I have in the month and a half I’ve been at school. This is what joining clubs will do to you!! Don’t diss on the clubs!! Most of the retreat was info about UIC radio, different positions, whatnot. We got free food, a whole buffet, which I’m very glad for. If I didn’t get fed, I think I would’ve hurt someone. Anyways, after our time, my boyfriend Emory and our newfound friend (BOTH UIC radio members (Hi Riley)) went to Chicago Costume in Lincoln Park. They have a basement full of vintage theater costumes that made me sneeze a lot. I wish I could wear a costume every day, but they make me feel uncomfortable. I love trying on hats and masks and taking photos in them, but I don't wanna go bald from wearing a hat every day.

Maybe it'd be a good look. It’s so fun to dig through all that they have, but too expensive for me, as most vintage stores are. We split up after walking around Lincoln Park for a while, as Emory had scheduled a photoshoot with another friend, Charlotte (it’s getting really friendly in here). After just getting off the blueline, we went back on it to go downtown to her dorm at The School of the Art Institute. Before school, I worked at Potbelly all summer, and I never thought I’d want to eat it in my free time, but that night I was REALLY craving it. And it fit in perfectly with Emory’s photoshoot, as he was photographing us eating. His idea, not mine. I like photoshoots. I’ve never really done one before, but it’s like playing dress-up. We put on some records and messed around with tinfoil and lights. It’s fun and free, for the most part. Once we wrapped up, we headed back to our dorms. I thought I was tired, but Charlotte’s dorm is right across from the Chicago Theater, where Jerry Seinfeld had been playing the past 2 nights. When we went out, I started bobbing around, yelling “WHERE’S JERRY” for no good reason. I just like to play. When I woke up the next morning, my voice was gone. Which was great because we were having lunch with family friends in Evanston. We had to go BACK on the train during the Chicago marathon with one million people crowding the platform. Ugh. And people don’t know how to walk or move. We got there slightly late, but all that mattered was we made it. The train ride felt longer than the lunch. I had fun regardless, as anyone would when they get a free meal. After my Monday classes, I slept a lot, which made me feel like a slob, but I think I’m almost over my cold now. The lesson here? I don’t really know. Have fun. Live life regardless of your ailments.
