My thoughts on the final season of Euphoria

Last Sunday, the final episode of Euphoria season 3 came out, officially bringing the well-loved series to an end. This season definitely had a couple of controversies, and people had harsh opinions. I am no different from anyone else and will share my opinions with you today. I’m going to try to limit the spoilers but read with caution.

 The vibes felt off

One of the first things I noticed was that the vibes this season felt very different from the vibes of the first 2 seasons. I definitely miss all of the colors; this season felt duller. I reasoned the lack of colors since there was a 5-year time skip, and the characters are no longer teenagers; they grew up, but the bright colors and over-the-top makeup were such a big staple of Euphoria that it feels off without them. Some characters felt different too. I feel like the characters of Cassie, Nate, and Jules were so different. While some of Cassie’s actions in the earlier seasons were unlikeable, she was relatable. Her thoughts and feelings were understandable. This season, all of Cassie was unlikeable. I just could not stand her whenever she was on my screen. I don’t know if the vibes of the actor’s controversies were transferred onto Cassie or if her character was truly so different. (Also, on a side note, every single one of Cassie’s OF scenes made me extremely uncomfortable.) I think Nate’s character was the one with the most difference. In seasons 1 and 2, Nate was very much super calculated and always 2 steps in front of everyone. But in season 3, Nate is getting screwed over by a flower. Also, Nate Jacobs being bad with money and being in such huge debt definitely does not fit his character. With Jules, I honestly don’t know why she was here. I feel like she didn’t add anything to the plot, which is kinda weird because in the earlier seasons Jules was like Rue’s Roman Empire.

Deleted scenes??

 After the ending of Euphoria, it came out that there were many deleted scenes. Most notable is Cassie and Nate’s wedding. We never got the scene with Lexi that was shown in the trailer. Cassie’s breakdown was also missing a couple of scenes. I don’t understand why they decided to cut things out of the wedding. I think most fans of the show were most excited for the wedding, so finding out things were cut is disappointing. It has also come out that Cassie and Alamo had a scene that was deleted where it showed that Alamo owned Cassie as part of her debt. While I think Cassie had way too much screen time, I think this scene could have made the ending better. In the end, it kinda felt like Maddy took most of the consequences. Maddy ended up getting stuck with Alamo while Cassie was stuck doing OF, which she was already doing anyway. Definitely felt a bit scared for Maddy at the end.

Character deaths

This section and next will have some spoilers, so this is your warning. 

Nate’s death was so so unexpected and, in a way, kinda tragic too. It felt like every episode he was losing a finger or toe, and then the dude ended up getting buried alive with a tiny hole for ventilation where a rattlesnake climbs down and bites him. What I didn’t get about Nate’s debt situation is that it felt like he and Cassie were doing nothing to pay off that debt. I mean, Nate is getting beaten up and getting extremities cut off, and he’s still living in that huge house. If I were in that situation, I would have sold everything that I own. Also, it seemed like Cassie was doing extremely well on OF, and she was sending money to Nate, but I guess he wasn’t using that money to pay off his debt because he later got kidnapped. Another death I was not expecting was Laurie. There was so much buildup leading up to her death, and it happened so fast. Laurie and her group got raided by the cops, and she chose death over jail so fast, like it was the only choice, and she did not have any second thoughts.

For Rue

The biggest death was definitely Rue’s. It was so sad, and I couldn’t stop crying. I clocked her death as soon as Fesco “escaped” jail. I think Rue’s death was so so devastating. She finally had the self-control to only take 1 painkiller pill for actual pain, which happened to be laced with fentanyl. I think what sucked the most is that her friends and family all think that she died because of an overdose, that it was her fault. They don’t know that she was laced, that she was murdered. Her last 7 minutes were very sad; tears were definitely flowing. Ali getting revenge for Rue was the highlight of the season. It’s good to know that Rue truly had someone on her side. I think what makes Rue’s death so sad was the fact that she was just starting to get her life together; she was going to leave the drug world behind, and she found a relationship with religion. She was finally turning her life around, but a cruel man put a stop to that. In honor of Rue, go watch Love Island season 8.
