NFL Week 2: Caleb NOOOOOOO

Week 2 NFL Updates

I’m about to throw up. Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams went down in the fourth quarter from a non-contact injury and was escorted out on a cart. Before that happened, the offense was not looking good at all with rainy conditions and the Vikings blitz blazing through us. With a final score of 9-3 and the Vikings win, I can confidently say I’m concerned about the future of the Bears offense.

Not only did Caleb get injured, but Jaxson Dart was sandwiched by defenders on the first drive of the game and blew his knee out giving me 0.8 fantasy points this week. Thankfully, Davontae's routes were enough to bring tears to my eyes, and he showed us why he’s still an elite WR option.

Josh Allen still looks like the best QB in football. Moving on...

Jayden Daniels seems like such a glass cannon quarterback which is why I could not afford to draft him this year. I made that mistake in my first season of fantasy last year, and it could have cost me my season if I didn’t make roster adjustments. Getting his elbow dislocated must have felt horrible, I'm sure, but it was a great indication that I made the right decision.

This week, SNF was a lot of fun between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts. It truly was a battle of the run game between Jonathan Taylor vs. Kenneth Walker III. Mahomes getting comfortable with the deep ball is a giant red smoke signal to the rest of the league. It must be noted that WRs Thornton and Worthy have been getting most of the attention downfield, but Rashee Rice should be ramping up to capture a solid target share.

Finally, we have solidified the top wideouts of the season so far who proved their dominance in the NFL time and time again. We see what happens when Bengals QB Joe Burrow decides that he loves football again and absolutely launches that thing: Ja'Marr Chase Texans toe tap in the end zone. JSN destroyed the Cardinals, and his route running continues to look special despite backup Drew Lock replacing Sam Darnold. If anything, fans want Lock to continue because of his pro-JSN target share percentage. CeeDee torched the Commanders secondary and had a field day looking effortlessly open. No doubt, Lars must be jumping for joy seeing him completely healthy and fed this year.

Nish's Notes

Some quick observations from matchups and trends this week:

  • Saquon goes down with a stinger, Eagles offense looking kinda mid (sorry Lars). It seems like he just doesn’t have the juice or maybe even the proper blocking to get explosive plays.

  • The Packers without Josh Jacobs and Micah Parsons seem like a hollow shell of their former self.

  • The Raiders offense and defense actually look solid, and I believe they could be playoff contenders this year provided everyone stays healthy and TE Brock Bowers continues his dominant production post meniscus surgery.

  • Drake Maye still sucks and is currently on one of the worst starting QB streaks in NFL history, but he’s lucky that his defense is so good. I’m not denying that he has potential as a quarterback, but he can very easily go from being last year’s Superbowl contender to a 2nd or 3rd string backup QB.

Week 2 Matchup

This week I heavily underperformed while Iva’s team dominated. I figured it was going to be a bit of a down-week, but I think Iva’s team has solid playoff aspirations with how the regular season is starting off. What surprised me the most was Bijan’s 9.6 points because I expected backup Falcons QB Cooper Rush to throw a bunch of checkdowns to Bijan, not trusting the deep ball. Additionally, the Patriots defense locked down QB Aaron Rodgers, scoring a massive 21 points. Iva’s team just looks scary with people like Sam LaPorta and Chuba Hubbard chilling casually on the bench. Overall, It was a down week for me with 9 of my total players scoring between 6-9 points. My take on it is that Iva’s team is shaping up to be pretty scary only with developing concerns about Omarion Hampton’s presence in the Charger's backfield.

Roster Adjustments

  • Picked up Bryce Young, anticipating Jaxson Dart’s injury against the Rams (I’m a psychic and knew there’s a substation nearby that’s gonna blow up his knee).

  • Declan picked up T-Hock and dropped TE Chig Okonkwo with Raiders TE1 Brock Bowers still sidelined and backup TE1 Michael Mayer not taking a substantial passing role in the offense.

  • Made a move for DJ Moore to replace Etienne and Doubs (thank you Julien), essentially buying low on him after he went out scoring -0.1 points and strained his AC shoulder joint. He dropped injured Alec Pierce.
