November's Playlist

I make a playlist for every month. Sometimes the playlist will naturally create itself over the course of the month, consisting mostly of songs that I’ve really enjoyed over the 30-day time frame. Other times, I’ll create the playlist before the first of the month out of songs that represent the vibe that I want to carry with me into the month. However, what ends up happening a lot of the time is that during the first couple days of the month, I will put the playlist together based on a mix of all of the different criteria I use to make a playlist. There will be songs on the playlist that are there just because they’re some of my favorites of the moment. There will be other songs that I’ve put on the playlist because I feel like they accurately represent the season we are in, or where I’m at in my life. Sometimes, I’ll put songs on a monthly playlist just because I have a nostalgic connection between the song and the month.

These playlists usually end up being pretty short, with a length usually between seven and ten songs. It’s semi-common for me to make a longer playlist, but that isn’t my default for playlist making usually. My playlists tend to be pretty specific, even when they’re as anything goes as my monthly playlists are, so my pickiness adds into the shortness of the playlist in a big way. A decent amount of the time, my playlists end up being extremely short, a lot being only three or four songs. However, this was not the case this month. November’s playlist ended up being unusually long for me, at a whopping 20 songs long.

I attribute the length of this playlist to the fact that November is one of my favorite months of the year. I have a lot of very fond memories associated with November, many of which include my friends and family. November is also a month that I consider the beginning of the Christmas season, and with Christmas being my favorite holiday, it’s very hard for me to feel anything negative towards a month that puts it in mind for me.

November, with its cold weather and fond memories, holds a lot of joy for me. While I can’t say that all of the songs on my November playlist are joyful (many of them, in fact, are very much not) I can say that they are all songs that have brought me joy at some point in my life. A lot of the songs are mid-tempo, a lot of them having very soothing vocals that I enjoy, and a lot of the songs are songs that I put on at a very low volume in the background when I take a nap. This playlist is a mix of trip-hop, R&B, and a mix of old and new gems that I’ve loved throughout my life. Here is my November playlist:
