Racing to Monetization

It was a regular day at UIC Radio during our show where I realized a problem. I

enjoy talking and going on rants and long speeches but with radio I was limited not only by time but also by respecting my co-hosts and allowing them to speak their minds on the topics being talked about. I had so much left to talk about and thought to myself, how can I solve this problem? When all of a sudden it hits me, why don’t I just start my own podcast on my own time?

I already had a microphone from a YouTube channel I tried to run, and for when we wanted to do summer shows for our own Radio. I also had the knowledge as to how to record and upload to podcast platforms. After some brainstorming I finally settled on a name for the show. I was ready to start uploading, and so my journey started.

I instantly saw that the site I used to distribute my podcast allowed me to earn money on my podcast episodes if I was able to obtain a certain amount of unique listeners within the first 3 months. I was growing rapidly, and was on track to hitting this goal but time was ending shortly.

Unfortunately, I had a lot of events happening in my personal life that prevented me from keeping up with my uploading schedule, and prevented me from meeting my goal in the time allotted. I continued to work on my podcast after the time as I enjoyed creating content, but as of recently due to newly acquired responsibilities I have stopped making new episodes but hope to continue again soon. Regardless, I will always remember the first days of my podcast and that thrilling race to monetization.
