Sienna Spiro Songs That Hurt in the Best Way

Sienna Spiro has easily become one of my favorite artists this year. Her music found me at the perfect time, especially while I was going through a breakup. I’ve cried to her songs more times than I’d like to admit, and getting to see her live at Lollapalooza made me love her music even more. Hearing these songs live made them even more special. Watching Sienna sing while the entire crowd sang every word back to her was such a beautiful moment and reminded me how deeply her music connects with people.

After her Best New Artist win at the VMAs, I wanted to look back at some of the songs and pick out a few that really hit.

  1. Die On This Hill

I cried through the entire song at Lollapalooza. Sienna Spiro is an incredible singer, and her voice is so powerful. The song captures a love you'd never want to find. She stays in a relationship she knows she shouldn't be in, and the people around her want her out of it, too. She's willing to die on this hill instead of walking away, and she holds on to her pride while she does it.

  2. I DON'T HATE YOU

Before "Die on This Hill" made Sienna Spiro a household name, there was "I Don't Hate You," a short, stripped-down song from her 2025 EP Sink Now, Swim Later. This song is so good when you've just broken up, and you can't let go yet. It's less dramatic than a heartbreak anthem, and I guess that's why it hurts differently, because when we break up and want to go back to someone we know we shouldn't fix things with, we hate ourselves more than we hate them.

  3. You Stole The Show

I love how "You stole the show" can have two different meanings in this song. It can mean your significant other taking away attention that is supposed to be yours, so they are always trying to one-up you, or it could mean that whenever Sienna performs, she expects some sort of validation/compliment but never receives one

  4. The Visitor

So good!! The song is about being attached to someone while knowing, deep down, that the relationship is only temporary. It captures that feeling of being a “visitor” in someone’s life, as if you stop trying to hold on, the connection will eventually fade. But realizing that you are the visitor is a different kind of pain, because it means never fully feeling like you belong or have a permanent place in that person’s life.

  1. Great Expectation

This song is all about falling for the version of someone you created in your head rather than who they actually are. Sometimes expectations feel better than reality because they let you imagine the person exactly how you want them to be. When she says, “If happiness is just an illusion, you are the best I’ve ever had,” it feels like she is admitting that even if the relationship or feeling was never fully real, the version she imagined still became incredibly meaningful and precious to her.

  2. Dream Police

This song has so much meaning behind it! It’s about losing someone you loved so deeply that reality starts to feel painful, and being awake almost feels harder than sleeping. In dreams, you get to have that person back, even if it’s only for a little while. Dreaming becomes a form of denial and an escape from the anxiety of facing what is actually gone. The song also has this slightly obsessive feeling because she doesn’t want to let go at all; she would rather stay in the world she created in her dreams, where the person is still there, and she can still feel happy with them.
