  1. “We Fell in Love in October” by Girl in Red

Perfect for the hopeless romantic, this song captures the exciting emotions of the beginning stages of a new relationship. It is romantic and passionate, and makes you want to dance in your room with a lit pumpkin candle.

  1. “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood

Similar to the previous song, this one is raw with honest lyrics that evoke emotion. With lyrics such as “Inside this place is warm, Outside it starts to pour,” it is comforting and perfect for fall.

  1. “There She Goes” by The La’s

Perhaps it's the connection to Gilmore Girls that makes this song feel so autumnal, but there is undoubtedly a nostalgic and cozy feeling surrounding it. The acoustic guitar and repetitive lyrics make it mellow and comforting, perfect for a walk under orange leaves.

  1. “Into Dust” by Mazzy Star

Perhaps the most spooky lyrics on the list, this song takes romance and unveils the parts of it often untold. Being willing to fade away into nothing as long as you are with the person you love is such a beautiful sentiment that the song perfectly captures. It is soft and melodic and would best be appreciated by drinking a warm cup of coffee or tea to.

  1. “Paper Bag” by Fiona Apple

With the perfect amount of angst and yearning, Fiona Apple’s writing conveys how it feels to be young and experiencing life for the first time. Her cozy and familiar melodies, combined with her powerful vocals, create a perfect medley. For the optimal experience, listen to this song while walking down the street wearing boots and tights.

  1. “Luna” by The Smashing Pumpkins

With its soft melody and romantic lyrics, “Luna” is at the top of the list when it comes to the best autumn songs. It is perfect for doing pretty much anything: sleeping, driving, studying, and more. It does a beautiful job of capturing the vulnerable and intimate moments of a relationship, and would have a cinnamon aroma if songs could smell.

  1. “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Billie Holiday

While this song can definitely be enjoyed year-round, it has a comforting and nostalgic feel that is best appreciated in the fall season. The optimal way to listen to this song would be on a vintage record player while slow dancing in the living room, but in your car on Spotify is great too.

  1. “Witches’ Rave” by Jeff Buckley

If the visual of witches having a rave isn’t enough to draw you into this song, then its clever and original lyrics will. Combined with Buckley’s passionate and haunting vocals, this song sets the mood for a cozy night in.

  1. “The Bug Collector” by Haley Heynderickx

This song sounds like it could fit perfectly in the Coraline (2009) universe. It is eerie yet peaceful, and has the cadence of rain against a window. With interpretive lyrics and original imagery, it is a must-listen for the fall season.

  1. “Halloween” by Phoebe Bridgers

Last but certainly not least, this Phoebe Bridgers song is a must-add to any fall playlist. Not only do the title and album cover encapsulate that spooky fall feeling, but the lyrics and haunting melody do as well. Phoebe does an incredible job at creating nostalgic and familiar melodies, even to people who have never heard them. Her songs feel like a warm hug, perfect for listening to on a rainy and chilly day.
