Blog! Blog! Blog!

Sooooo What's the FAW? Ep 1.

Welcome, my little tunes, to my new winter blog series!!!! It's Sashis and every week I'll cover my favorite album of the week or the FAW! I'll try to pick 1-2 albums that were released at some point this year. My blog posts for January might include albums from 2025 because 2026 just started. However, if an album sweeps me off my feet, you best believe it'll be featured.

Now that we know what the vibes are for the post, WHATS THE FAW?! Sankofa by redveil!!!!!! It's the album that left me in awe for the week. Released on December 4, 2025, Sankofa is the fourth studio album released by Maryland rapper redveil. With 12 tracks and a runtime of 41 minutes, I'm happy to say, almost every song is longer than 3 minutes. Which I'm so grateful for because the composition and production for this album is insane. Some songs feel as if your experiencing a live jam session, the piano and the drums having conversations through out the songs. At times, when the occasion is right, the trumpet will give a song an explosion of color. Other times, its wistful. Each song is blended beautifully and transitioned smoothly to the new song. I genuinely am so in love with this album. I don't think I've heard an album this sonically cohesive and true to its identity. I think "History" embodies this sentiment perfectly. The chorus setting the mood with the bass leading the groove. The trumpet playing a dark tone, conversing with the guitar and Redveil's voice set to be in tune with his roots.

We see him go through his woes, love, and successes he's faced the last couple of years since his last album in 2022 learn 2 swim. "or so i", "pray 4 me", "mini me", and "save" are impeccable tracks back to back to show his lyricism. The symbolism, metaphors, rhyme scheme and plethora of literary devices to present the story for each songs really just drag you into his world. A world that's so bittersweet. One end you see the glory and joy fame has brought while on the other you see how its tore him apart. In search of who he truly is, this album is his answer. Genuinely, this is an album that you sit down and you feel all the emotions redveil conveys.

Overall, I think this is one of my top albums of the year. I fear it entered the top 5. This album is so true to its identity, I just sit and admire it with awe. The aesthetic and styling for the album is perfect and compliments redveil so well. He reminds me so much of noname, saba, and smino. Funny enough Smino was featured in "brown sugar". In a way, it felt like an official co-sign, soooooo if you like those artists, you need to start listening to redveil if you haven't already. He'll forever be on my radar. °❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・° Thanks for reading my lil tunes (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ♡
