The 5 Best Underrated Comedies Streaming Right Now

The 5 Best Underrated Comedies Streaming Right Now

Recently, it’s been argued that we’re in the midst of a second Golden Age for television, and with new streaming services and channels popping up everyday, it’s easy to see why. Yet, with more shows airing every year, and all your favorites just waiting to be binged, it becomes harder and harder to figure out what’s worth watching. With comedy, it’s even more difficult to discern due to people having different tastes and senses of humor. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for something funny to watch, or simply waiting for your favorites to come back, check out these shows that deserve a little more love.

  1. The Other Two

Struggling millennial siblings Cary and Brooke Dubek try to make something of their lives in the wake of their little brother’s overnight fame in The Other Two. Former Saturday Night Live head writers, Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider center narcissism, jealousy, and family in this scripted series. Gut-wrenchingly funny scenes pair surprisingly well with the occasional heartfelt moment as the Dubek family navigates elitist New York City. Season 3 is slated to air sometime next year so catch up now! Streaming on HBO Max.

  1. What We Do In The Shadows

From the quick-witted minds of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi — and based off of their 2014 film of the same name — What We Do In The Shadows follows the lives of four vampire roommates. This mockumentary style comedy is full of brilliant one liners, morally gray characters, and intricate vampiric lore. WWDITS is the perfect concoction of spooky sci-fi and silly antics that everyone can enjoy. Season 3 just ended and Season 4 is already on the way, so get comfy, turn off the lights, and happy binging. Streaming on Hulu.

  1. Reservation Dogs

Reservation Dogs follows four Indigenous teens living in rural Oklahoma as they do everything they can to escape to the beautiful and far-off land of California. Not only is Reservation Dogs hilarious it’s also breaking the mold with an all Indigenous writers room and directing staff. Fresh off its first season, Reservation Dogs brings lowkey, wholesome fun to the comedy scene. Streaming on Hulu.

  1. Sex Education

Socially awkward teen Otis Milburn doesn’t know much, but growing up with a sex therapist for a parent makes him an expert on one specific topic. The rural British town of Moordale doesn’t offer much in terms of sex education, so Otis and a classmate of his quickly find themselves running an underground sex clinic for the frisky students of their high school. Hilarious, mature, and timely, Sex Education is one of Netflix’s best shows yet. The series is expected to return in 2022, so get to watching. Streaming on Netflix.

  1. We are Lady Parts

Introverted, geeky Ph.D. student Amina becomes the unlikely lead guitarist of an all Muslim punk band in this British comedy. Anarchic, sweet, and outrageous; We Are Lady Parts is one of the most unexpected comedies of 2021. We Are Lady Parts offers diverse stories, fantastic music, and absurdly funny scenarios, what more could you ask for? Streaming on Peacock
