The Art Hole with Scarlet Demore

THE ART HOLE WITH SCARLET DEMORE

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend the opening of a brand new music venue called The Art Hole, located in Jefferson Park. For a grand opening, the intimate space was filled with people eager to listen to live music in a community setting, after a long and, frankly, sad period with no live performances whatsoever. The space itself was completely decked out in neon with a blue UV light that made everything glow bright and colorfully. 90s cartoons projected continuously on the back wall, leaving the small crowd feeling nostalgic and ready to party, just as a good performance space should.

With a lineup of three local to semi-local groups, the second of the lot made a lasting impression on myself and the crowd of seasoned punks alike. Scarlet Demore is a high energy four-piece rock ensemble from Des Plaines, Illinois, consisting of members Cat Ayala (vocals), Alex Gonzalez (lead guitar), Jake Schnoebelen (bass), and Angelo Santoyo (drums).

This group is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned. It is hard to come across a stage presence as powerful as Scarlet Demore’s, especially coming from such a young group of performers. Their sound is similar to that of the groups No Doubt (ironically, they played a fantastic cover of No Doubt’s “Just A Girl”), Sunday Cruise, and FIDLAR; but they have their own unique twist that is incomparable to any other.

The group’s singer, Cat Ayala, has a raw and electrifying voice that can captivate any audience with provoking words and dynamic energy. Accompanied by intense slap-bass from Jake Schnoebelen, energetic lead guitar from Alex Gonzalez, and driving rhythms from Angelo Santoyo, this small Chicagoland rock band has its craft on lock. They currently have four released singles available for streaming on Spotify and Soundcloud, including their latest 2021 release entitled “Peaches”. Scarlet Demore is a must-listen.

I would recommend this band one thousand times over to anyone and everyone. If you like music, you will love Scarlet Demore.
