The Khia Asylum

Hello friends! Welcome to My Notes App!! I started this blog with the intention of it becoming an outlet where I can yap about my interests and essentially replace my literal iPhone notes app. I can’t keep paying $2.99 a month for extra storage, to be honest.

A few weeks ago, the 2026 Grammy Awards took place, kicking off my favorite time of the year: Award Season. The Grammys this year featured a Best New Artist nomination for Zara Larsson, who is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Her nomination sparked discussion on Stan Twitter surrounding the Khia Asylum, which naturally prompted me to share my own opinions on the topic.

What is the Khia Asylum?

For those who don’t know, the Khia Asylum is a physical (and also metaphorical) place designated for musicians (known as Khias) who released a few hit songs and then completely fell off. The Khia Asylum is named after Khia, who is known for her hit song, “My Neck, My Back.” Following the release of that track, Khia was never heard from again (AKA all of her other songs flopped).

According to Floptok Wiki, the requirements to enter the Khia Asylum are as follows:

  1. Must have little to no minor hits on charts (only Major hits)

  2. Must not have a specified aesthetic

  3. Must not have be a well-known personality

  4. Must not have left any cultural impact

Escaping the Khia Asylum

Hope is not lost! As of right now, there are three known ways to escape the Khia Asylum:

  1. Make a hit song or album

  2. Start a controversy

  3. Quit music (Important to note: quitting and returning to music does not automatically take you out of the Khia Asylum. You must entirely quit making music and pursue fame in other ways).

The most recent and notable escape was Zara Larsson, whose hit “Midnight Summer” took over the charts in late 2025. She initially blew up in the mid 2010s, releasing hit songs like “Lush Life”, “Ain’t My Fault”, and “Symphony,” which should’ve been enough to get her out of the Khia Asylum ages ago, but the people simply were not ready for her yet. Now is her time.

Another notable escape is Sabrina Carpenter, who escaped the Khia Asylum in 2024 with her single “Espresso”, which now has over 2.8 BILLION streams on Spotify. Followed by her album, Short n' Sweet, Sabrina now has enough hits to keep her out of the Khia Asylum for life. Personally, I would argue that she never was in the Khia Asylum to begin with, but I am slightly biased considering that I've been a fan of her since I was in middle school. Either way, she is free from the wrath of Azealia Banks, a popular Khia Asylum inmate.

Other notable escapees include:

  1. Tinashe – Escaped in 2025 with the release of “No Broke Boys” and a viral TikTok dance created to her 2024 track, “Nasty”

  2. Tate McRae – Escaped in 2023 with the release of “greedy”

  3. Charli XCX – Escaped in 2024 with the release of her album, BRAT

  4. PinkPantheress – Escaped in 2025 with the release of her song “Illegal” and “Stateside + Zara Larsson.”

  5. Addison Rae – Escaped in 2024 with the release of “Diet Pepsi”

Trapped in the Khia Asylum

There’s a number of celebrities still locked up in the Khia Asylum. Some notable celebrities include:

  1. Normani – separated from Fifth Harmony in 2016, featured on massive singles such as “Love Lies” by Khalid and “Dancing With A Stranger” by Sam Smith before falling off in 2019, following the release of her single “Motivation” (WHICH IS A BANGER LIKE GIRL I KNOW YOU HAVE MORE POTENTIAL THAN THIS).

  2. Daya – Featured on “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Chainsmokers in 2016, which has over 2.3 billion streams on Spotify, then released “Hide Away” and “Sit Still, Look Pretty”, two tracks that did incredibly well (until the end of the year, then she fell off LOL).

  3. Azealia Banks – Released “212” and “Luxury” in 2014 and then had the craziest downfall of all time. I would argue that the Khia Asylum should be re-named the Azealia Asylum, but that’s neither here nor there.

  4. Dua Lipa – Released hits like “IDGAF” and “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” in 2017, was featured on “One Kiss” by Calvin Harris, which has over 2.6 billion Spotify streams, before she fell off.

  5. Ava Max – Released “Sweet but Psycho" in 2020 before completely falling off.

Among these celebrities, there are the two that I believe should be the next to escape/be released from the Khia Asylum:

  1. Bebe Rexha

GET MY GIRL OUT OF THEREEEEEE. As someone who was unapologetically obsessed with Bebe Rexha in 2018/19, she has always had potential, and I believe she has a very high chance of escaping this year. Within the last few years, she was featured on “I’m Good (Blue)” by David Guetta, almost granting her parole. However, she didn’t make any moves with any of her next releases, throwing her back into the depths of the “Neck Back Hall” , a room in the Khia Asylum designated for musicians that released only a few hits before flopping. A unique aspect of Bebe Rexha’s detainment is that she acknowledges her place in the Khia Asylum, frequently tweeting about it. Bebe is desperate to escape, and I believe this is her year

  1. Hailee Steinfeld

SERIOUSLY GET HER OUTTTTTT. As a singer, songwriter, and actress, Hailee Steinfeld is a triple threat who has done her time and deserves to be let out of the Khia Asylum. With hits like “Starving”, “Most Girls”, and “Love Myself”, as well as her role in Pitch Perfect 2, it is evident that she is amazingly talented and has potential to become a main pop girl. While she dabbles in songs for film soundtracks, the people (me) are longing for a new release that will guarantee her release.

Others who I believe have a chance of escaping within the next few years are Alessia Cara and Ellie Goulding. Someone who will never escape is Azealia Banks. The most important takeaway from this blog is that she is the biggest flop of all….
