The Music Inside ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’

Last week, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke announced the release of his not-previously-mentioned album, ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes.’ The catch: it was only available for purchase through BitTorrent for the amount of $6.

Yorke stated that this was a test, describing it as “an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around,” and if it worked, it “could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work.”

A week later, this experiment has proven effective, as it has already sold over 1 million digital copies.

This isn’t the first time Yorke has experimented with album sales, as seen with Radiohead’s pay-what-you-want experiment for ‘The King Of Limbs’ in 2011.

Already, the album proves to be a great follow-up to Yorke’s previous solo album, ‘The Eraser,’ and, based on the amount of downloads it’s gotten, Yorke’s audience seems to agree. And while it certainly isn’t as long as some of his previous work, ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ proves to be quite the successful experiment.

Be sure to purchase the new album here if you haven’t already and be sure to comment and share your thoughts on it!
