Given the state of the world, many people have found comfort in buying and having little creatures staring back at them. Whether it's a charm or on their shelves, we are happy to spend money on little trinkets to fill our void of emptiness in some way.
Given the state of the world, many people have found comfort in buying and having little creatures staring back at them. Whether it's a charm or on their shelves, we are happy to spend money on little trinkets to fill our void of emptiness in some way.

By the end of 2024, trinkets became a source of happiness. It did once in our childhood when we’d buy Littlest Pet Shops and Shopkins, so doing it today brings back this spark of joy. Items like Labubus, Jellycats, Sonny Angels, and Smiski take us back to our child self.

The leading trendsetter that started it all was these cute angel babies, Sonny Angels. Their pretty faces and variety in bonnets made people go crazy over them. Now we see them everywhere. These adorable babies are often seen climbing onto laptops and/or phones, or they can be found in their little capsules, which are used to make bag charms. Sonny Angels offers a variety of series, including the Fruit Series and the Vegetable Series. They also carry limited-edition ones, like the NYC-themed ones. However, they used to be in high demand before other little creatures took the throne.

Recently, we have seen these angry-looking keychains. These trinkets are called Labubus. They first appeared in 2015 and were created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. They are supposed to resemble an elf and are inspired by Nordic mythology. They began to gain more recognition in 2019 with a collaboration with Pop Mart. That is when Labubus became a staple trinket. Labubus became popular because of their funky looks and cute colors. They come in both sitting and standing positions, in various colors, and with different facial expressions.
Most importantly, they come with this element of surprise; they are a blind box toy. This just makes them that much more addictive because if there is one that you like or want, you will continue to buy the surprise boxes until you get the one you want. Recently, we have seen that Labubus have been used to accessorize; they are often used as keychains on bags and backpacks. They help make your bag look more personalized. `

On a more minor note, the jelly cat stuffed animals and Smisksi are also little trinkets that bring us pockets of joy. Jelly cats with their cute stuffed animals, as well as amuseables consisting of a cute tennis racket or an angry turtle, there is one for everyone. Smiskis, on the other hand, can be like the sonny angles; they are little creatures who seem to do different tasks, such as getting ready, practicing yoga, or even imitating a piece of art. They can be placed around the house to make daily tasks more bearable.
It's trinkets like these that help us get through tough times like the ones we're in now. So if you ever find yourself feeling sad, maybe all you need is a little friend.
Xoxo,
