The Valentine's Day Edit
One of my favorite holidays is almost here! I know a lot of people differ from me in opinion, but I have loved Valentine's long before I actually had a Valentine. In fact, my first year with a Valentine was last year (shoutout to my boyfriend). To me, Valentine's Day has always symbolized more than romantic love; it is a day to celebrate those whom you love most. Why did everyone forget about familial love, friendship love, and even pet love?
My hypothesis for why Valentine’s Day is disliked is the widespread distaste for commercial pressure, which is a very fair point. The day dedicated to love should not be defined by fixed-price menus at restaurants or by stale chocolates in the Target dollar section.
However, one thing is clear. You need to treat yourself (and others if you feel so inclined). Whether that involves getting coffee at your favorite cafe or purchasing something from the list below is up to you!
While the list does include a few pricier items, I truly believe a thoughtful Valentine’s gift can be as simple as flowers, chocolates, cozy pajamas (for him or her), cute underwear, a book (support your local bookstores!), a great sweater, and so on.
How ever you’re spending this Valentine’s Day, partner or not, I hope you take the opportunity to show yourself a little love. After all, the relationships we have with ourselves are the most important ones we’ll ever have. I wanted to share a few ways I’m doing just that this year: through gifts, actions, and things I find incredibly chic.
