First Time Attendee Experience at WE '24

By: Brenda Leyva (The Scorpio Experience)

The Society of Women Engineers conference, WE24, took place in Chicago this year from October 24-26! From workshops to career fairs, this event covered everything a woman in engineering could benefit from. I had the honor of being a media partner for WE24 and actively participated in the conference. Let’s dive into the key highlights!

WORKSHOPS & HOSPITALITY SUITES

Coming from different conferences, I noticed that WE24 offered numerous workshops every hour, making for a packed schedule filled with choices. I attended affinity group meetups and workshops that boosted my motivation for cybersecurity and program management. It was a great experience that left a lasting impact on my career goals. They also had workshops tailored to different parts of engineering, which I loved so much about this conference. There were also hospitality suites where student and professional attendees could meet with recruiters and professionals from different companies.

CAREER FAIR

This career fair was one of the largest I’ve attended! With countless companies and exhibitors, from engineering to tech industries, it provided an excellent opportunity to connect with employers from various fields. One standout was Unilever, whose booth featured a wide range of beauty, nutrition, and body care products (including deodorants, lotions, styling gel, and shea oil). After speaking with a few of their employees, I learned that Unilever is behind the creation of these products, with their logo proudly displayed on the packaging. The fair also offered great merchandise like stickers, hats, bottles, laptop sleeves, tote bags, and portable chargers. These giveaways were a fantastic way for companies to engage with students looking to join the industry.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Special shoutout to Rewriting the Code for the chance to be part of their Chicago events. From visiting Reddit to networking with Belvedere Trading, I enjoyed meeting women in tech from across the country. I also want to thank the SWE team for trusting me as a Media Partner for WE 24! I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and already look forward to next year’s WE 25.
