21 Jump Street (2012)

I just watched the movie 21 Jump Street (2012), and I would recommend it to others.

The movie features Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as police officers (who are bad at their jobs) being sent on a mission as teenagers into a high school to infiltrate a drug that is becoming popularized.

I have not seen the original 21 Jump Street (1987), so I can’t offer any comparisons/contrasts to this newer movie, however, I know that the original characters have Easter eggs in the new film.

Throughout the movie, the characters Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) are navigating high school life about 10 years after they graduated, and that is when the irony comes in.

When they were in high school, Jenko was one of the popular kids. He didn’t care about school; he was mean to people, disrespectful, and more of a “class clown” kind of guy, while Schmidt was a nerdy, straight A, got rejected by all the girls he liked, type of guy.

They are very opposite, very different characters that found comfort in each other after they left high school.

However, when they return for a secret mission,  Schmidt is now the cool one. In the new atmosphere they enter it is “cool”  to get good grades, care about things and treat others with respect. This time, Jenko has a hard time fitting in.

However, as the movie progresses, Jenko makes friends with the “nerds,” while Schmidt joins the gang. This is when it all goes down…

Overall, this movie was worth my time. It had a couple of good laughs, it’s only 1hr and 49 minutes and the plotline was exciting.

It had a more dramatic story while being funny (as both Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill can do).

If you find yourself bored on a night wondering what to watch, try the new 21 Jump Street, you might like it.
