2hollis @ The Salt Shed: Concert Review

Hello everyone!! On Thursday, October 2nd, I was given the wonderful opportunity to do press coverage for 2hollis. Before I get into my experience at the show, I’d like provide a little bit of background on the artist.

Who is 2hollis?

Hollis Parker Frazier-Herndon, professionally known as 2hollis (and mononymously known as Hollis), is an American singer, rapper, and producer. He creates upbeat dance and electronic music, while also venturing through the genres of experimental hip-hop, electropop, and cloud rap. Hollis began to grow a fanbase following the release of his 2022 album, White Tiger, but it wasn’t until his song “poster boy” – featured on his album 2 – blew up in 2023 that his career truly took off. He quickly grew a fanbase, and with the releases of his hit songs “crush” and “jeans,” his fanbase is continuously growing at an insanely fast rate.

Hollis is currently on The Star Tour, touring for his latest album, star, released on April 4th, 2025.

Now that you have some background on the artist, let’s dive into my experience at the show.

Venue

I just wrote about the Salt Shed in a concert review posted last week, and after attending another show there, I can easily say that it is one of, if not my favorite, concert venues in the city. On the stage, there was a giant, inflatable white tiger to set the scene, but the lighting was what really carried 2hollis’ set. Red and white lights shot through the crowd at every point of the show, and the stage was constantly covered in a layer of fog.

Again, I need to give a huge shoutout to the sound crew at The Salt Shed because, once again, the sound was incredible. At an EDM show, with such loud and rhythmic music, the vocals can often get swallowed by the backing tracks, but The Salt Shed did a great job at keeping the two balanced and keeping the sounds clear.

Performance

To get the full experience, I started the show on the VIP balcony and ended it in the pit with the rest of the audience. In the VIP balcony, I got a view of the crowd as 2hollis’ intro began, and they went absolutely insane. The second a short clip of Hollis’ vocals echoed through the room, multiple mosh pits formed and people were immediately rushing at each other. When Hollis came on stage, though, everyone grouped back together. In a way, he united them and I think that’s beautiful.

As I prepared to write this blog, I was struggling to find the words to describe this show because it was one of the craziest performances I’ve ever seen. I had an enjoyable time in the VIP area, but it wasn’t until I joined a friend in the pit that I got the true 2hollis concert experience. I have a friend (shoutout Eli), who had a week-long obsession with the song “crush”, which was played about halfway through the set. It was one of the first 2hollis songs I had been introduced to, and it was even better live. While I don't typically frequent this genre, 2hollis' songs are so addictive to listen to that I enjoy them no matter what.

My other favorites of the set include “teenage soldier,” “sidekick,” “flash,” and of course, “jeans.” Each song was mixed so it seamlessly transitioned into the others, which I really enjoyed throughout the show. While I didn’t mention it above, I need to talk about a lesser-known song called “eldest child.” I came to this concert fully expecting a traditional EDM-type performance: elaborate stage production, high-energy performing, and an aggressive amount of autotune used throughout the entire show. At the end of the set, though, Hollis brought out a mic stand and performed a beautiful, lyrical number. Not only did it showcase his songwriting, but it also showcased his vocals, which are much more impressive than he receives credit for. In Hollis’ genre(s), the musical talent is typically shown through the artist’s stage presence, mixtapes, and persona, and not so much vocals and songwriting like other genres. However, Hollis’ performance of “eldest child” literally brought me to tears. It resonated with me in such a personal way, and I was very surprised, but grateful, to hear such a song at this kind of show.

Thankfully, my tears had dried up by the (first) time he played his hit song, “jeans.” Because “jeans” is his most popular song, he saved it for last, which is a trend most artists tend to follow. However, as the song approached its end, it started again. And again, and again. Hollis played “jeans” FOUR times in a row, and each time it got better. The crowd got more insane every time the song began, and it was the perfect way to end such a high-energy set.

Post-Concert

After the show actually ended, the crowd rushed out of the venue and created a line along a fence on the side of the building, waiting for Hollis to exit the venue and greet his fans, as he does at every show.

I waited for about 30 minutes, give or take, before he finally came outside to greet people. He signed autographs, took photos, and sparked up all kinds of conversations with his supporters, despite how rushed he was. I have always appreciated that in a performer. While I didn’t get to speak to him myself, I had friends who met him and had nothing but great things to say.

After delivering what I can imagine was an exhausting performance, Hollis was still coming out and spending at least ten minutes walking up and down the line of fans, which solidifies to me what a great artist and person he is. I was lucky enough to see 2hollis perform at Lollapalooza this year, and I had an amazing time. I can easily say, though, that this show was even better, and I hope I get another chance to see him perform live!
