31 Days of Halloween

Halloween has been my favorite holiday for as long as I can remember. So, to formally celebrate this year, I decided to watch a different piece of spooky media every day. It was difficult to narrow down what to watch because there are so many great options, but I did what I could with the time I had. Also, I spent probably 3 hours creating this chart, so please glaze in the comments.

My Halloween Staples:
Hocus Pocus: Typically, my dad and I watch this movie together. Over the years, it's become a sort of unspoken tradition. I'm not sure how it came to be; I wouldn't even say I like the movie that much. Nonetheless, I can acknowledge that it captures spooky season perfectly. I, however, being the terrible daughter that I am, watched it without him this year. Let's just say, he felt betrayed- to say the least. In my defense, I had good reasoning; my roommate had never seen it. I felt as though it was my personal responsibility to take her Hocus Pocus virginity!
Scream: This movie never fails to get me into the Halloween spirit. The cast is stacked in both looks and acting abilities. In my dreams, it is me, Billy, and Stuart. While the film itself is not very scary, it is a great celebration of the horror genre.
AHS Murder House: My good friend, Kayla, and I started rewatching this season one afternoon while working on homework. As always, it was finished in one day. Binge-watching is one of the many useless talents I possess. I've come to realize I have a pattern of breaking the number one rule of starting a series with someone: I continued to watch it on my own afterwards. What can I say, I am an impatient woman! But once again, in my defense, I had more homework to do after I got home and needed some comforting background noise.
Iconic Halloween Movies:
The Love Witch: I love how this movie flips the idea of women being overly emotional and irrational in love onto men. Essentially, Elaine is deemed a villain because she uses her body and sexuality to her advantage. God forbid a woman weaponize patriarchy! This is really why it's classified as a horror movie. But also, it is a great reminder to be careful of what you wish for, because you might get exactly what you think you want and realize it isn't as good as it seemed. In other words, remain cynical, my friends.
Elvira: Elvira is another great example of a maneater. In times like these, we need to look to our role models for guidance. She uses her charisma, unique nerve, and talent to control the narrative. Plus, she has one clear trait that we all enjoy having on our screen... her sarcasm, of course!
My Favorite First-Time View:
Scary Movie: While I have watched other movies from this franchise, this year was my first time watching the original Scary Movie. I need to speak to the writer and find out why they hate Dewey so much. They did him so dirty, but it was entertaining, so we'll allow it. Bring back stupid and outlandish movie parodies, please I'm begging!!!
