A Day in the Life

Of my sister Brittaney

Posted on March 07, 2019

Happy International Women’s Day Eve everyone! On the day before a very special day I want to share with you an interview I carefully prepared featuring my sister Brittaney or, as you will soon know her as, Master of Health. Through this feature story, you will learn of the great triumphs and downfalls of living healthy. Additionally, you will be given a healthy dosage of advice about starting a fit lifestyle if you choose to embark on the same journey. You get all this complete with my (helpful) commentary.

Part I: Food for Thought

Q: What do you call yourself diet-wise (i.e. vegan, vegetarian, veg-something else)?

A: Part-Time Vegetarian.

Q: When did you become a part-time vegetarian?

A: About a year and a half ago.

Q: Name three foods (i.e. fruits, vegetables, whatever peas are) you usually eat nowadays.

A: Blue Berries, Broccoli, and Beans. They fall into three categories: fruits, cruciferous, and protein.

My commentary: Britt likes the three B’s: berries, broccoli, and beans, which should be easy to remember. The word cruciferous on the other hand… hopefully, you’ll find the link helpful.

Q: What would you say is the tastiest “healthy” meal you’ve eaten recently?

A: Gumbo chili. I substituted ground beef with ground tofu. I grounded the tofu myself.

Q: If you could go back to eating like you used to, would you?

A: No, I don’t feel good eating tons of meat.

Q: What was your favorite meal before you became a part-time vegetarian?

Q: Do you have a vegetarian alternative (for the above mentioned?)

A: Nope.

My commentary: I’m guessing this is one of the reasons she’s only a part-time vegetarian.

***Bonus***

  1. Tofu doesn’t go bad as quickly as meats do.

  2. Black beans are actually higher in iron than beef or pork.

  3. Some berries are high in antioxidants that help clear your skin.

  4. Do not attempt to change your diet with meat substitutes because you can’t trick your brain. Instead, try some food combinations you like that don’t have meats in them.

Part II: Let’s Work Something Out

Q: How often do you go to the gym?

A: Five days a week.

Q: What do you do and for how long?

A: I do cardio on the treadmill for twenty minutes and then I do weights for twenty minutes.

Q: What is your fitness goal?

A: I don’t want to be out of breath after climbing the stairs.

My commentary: Everyone can benefit from exercise if it can cure things like the above.

Q: Tips for beginners?

A: Find something to hold yourself accountable. For example, I need shame. My Apple watch shames me by telling me I missed my exercise goal for the day.

My commentary: Failure makes you stronger.

Part III: Lighting Round

Q: Do you believe you’ll live longer?

A: No

Q: Is it ok to “cheat” on your diet?

A: Yes

Q: Do you have more energy now that you’ve changed your diet and you exercise regularly?

A: Yes

Q: Should you continue to exercise even if you’re sore?

A: Yes.

My commentary: Suddenly, I can’t hear.

Q: Are Oreos vegan?

A: No.

My commentary: Do ya’ll hear sumn?

Q: If you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would you capture it?

A: …Yes.

Part IV: Conclusion

And that’s a wrap. I know that I slacked in the fitness area due to my bias towards laziness but don’t let that stop you from working out to your heart’s content (and your heart will be content if you follow Brittaney’s example). Live, laugh, love, eat (healthy), and stay tuned for another special interview next week!
