Everything is Embarrassing

I would like to preface by saying that most of the pivotal, groundbreaking things you will achieve in your lifetime will make you experience feelings of embarrassment and discomfort to some extent. To achieve something, you must step out of your cozy and comfortable bubble, which is intimidating, I know. Our bubbles are our safe haven that consists of comfort and familiarity. If you yearn for more, you must gain new perspectives and acquire experiences that allow you to develop. I urge you to place yourself in new situations, enabling you to observe your behavior and soak up knowledge like a sponge soaks up water. Will you feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or even shameful? Yes, a thousand times over, but you will learn to explore with a childlike fearlessness. You have already memorized your part of the world by heart, but it does not end there.

I felt no shame as a child, as I’m sure some of you did as well. We learned with curiosity and fascination and tried unfamiliar things without fear of failure. If you remove age from the equation, nothing appears different. Whether you are starting a new career, creating a business, or seeking higher education, you need to accept that there will be instances where you experience embarrassment. Still, those moments will help you to truly start living. Being embarrassed means doing something outside of your comfort zone, something unknown, uncertain, or undiscovered. You are not clinging to safety but rather uncovering your true potential. It may appear that your lack of knowledge makes you feel inferior, but that is why you are trying and why you are there: to gain knowledge.

Clinging to what is comfortable will provide you with a false sense of security while creating the narrative that everything beyond that security is dangerous and distant, appearing like a threat. After taking the plunge, venturing beyond will acclimate you. You will become familiar and crave more. Allowing uncertainty to hold you back limits your world to become filled with what you think you are capable of, not what you are capable of. I want more than that, and I hope you do as well.

Remember, you follow your own path and create your own tracks, not the matted path filled with others’ sunken footsteps. The embarrassment passes, and the experience remains. The discomfort disintegrates, and you emerge, full of new growth. No one can take the things you have gained for themselves. They are uniquely yours forever. A subconscious place will emerge where the undermining voices will become quieter, quieter, and eventually, inaudible.

I encourage you to do something this week that you have been wary of. In the unknown and uncomfortable, you will see the appreciation of life and the opportunities it provides you with.

With love,
