Fall Favorites

Fall is the best of the four seasons. The weather is perfect, a balance between chilly and warm. The seasonal drinks and comfort movies are unmatched. And it has the best holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving. What's not to love?

In my recent podcast, someone asked me about my favorite fall movies and shows. I totally went overboard in answering the question, because there are so many things I associate with this time of year. This blog is dedicated to going in depth about my favorite fall media!

MOVIES AND SHOWS

There are so many great movies and shows that fit in with the fall aesthetic. Growing up, I loved watching Coraline and Corpse Bride because of their eerie

soundtracks and beautiful animation. They are absolute classics for this time of year and are great for Halloween movie nights.

After rewatching Coraline a few years ago, I found it a lot scarier than I did at 8 years old. The concept of the Other Mother and parallel universes was so unsettling, which I probably didn't really grasp when I was younger. I still love watching Coraline conspiracy videos where people dissect the movie frame by frame and find even creepier easter eggs.

I also strongly associate Supernatural with this time of year. I've rewatched the show an unhealthy amount times, but I especially love the first few episodes because of the paranormal 2000s aesthetic. It's a great show if you're into thrillers and demon hunting.

I'm not the biggest fan of horror movies, although I was an avid watcher back in high school. My favorite was Sinister, which plagued me with nightmares for 3 months when I watched it in 8th grade. Lately, I find scary movies uncomfortable rather than entertaining. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Finally, a trashy romance classic, Twilight. The Twilight series is so iconic and a must watch for fall. Apparently, the movies are being re-released in theaters in two weeks, so if you haven't seen the pinnacle of 2000s romance, I am honestly envious of you. I'm sure watching it in theaters for the first time is an amazing experience.

VIDEO GAMES

I am an embarrassment to the video game community because I can never finish what I've started. I absolutely love action and horror games but can never bring myself to play the last few chapters. Resident Evil 4 is one of my many victims. The chilling aesthetic and the rare jump scares genuinely make me fall out of my seat. Although I'm doomed to never reach Chapter 16, I highly recommend the game to anyone who loves horror games (and Leon Kennedy).

Another favorite is Stardew Valley, which is a lot calmer and relaxing. There's something so satisfying about enjoying a hot cup of tea while playing this game. I've only clocked about 50 hours into the game and have yet to make it past Year 2. I'm excited to master the art of maximizing my profit each season and have the most beautiful farm on the internet (definitely not possible, since I've seen the modded farms on TikTok and they are gorgeous). If you love creative indie games like Minecraft, this one is for you!

BOOKS

Fall always has me reaching for the trashiest romance books. Twilight, of course. I enjoy rereading the series as much as rewatching the movies. I also love Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, which also emulates the early 2000s fantasy romance vibes. It's essentially an alternative version of Twilight with fallen angels, and it gets so good as the series goes on.

As for more plot-driven books, the Raven Cycle is a must read. The four-book series has such great, complex characters and a layered, intense story. The author, Maggie Stiefvater, is an expert in slow-burn, and not just in the romantic sense. The plot line is overarching for all four books, so they really feel like one continuous one. It's a great series and worth the read!

I dedicated an entire blog to Fall albums a few weeks ago, so be sure to check that out! To anyone who's also swamped with midterm exams, best of luck! We got this.
