Heavenly Down

24 hours ago, that day
Breeze skirted through city heights
Sweeping the azure, blushing blue
With white strokes of thoughtful cloud.
With the seemingly same rays of dawn
The city wakes up, to look out the window
In all of its wonder and familiarity
Heavy thoughts of clouds resting on bare earth.
Despite the cold air
Slicing through skin and spine
People go about the day,
Making friends with innocent snow.

How pretty it seems
Nature's most profound element
Dressing up for its season
In all is beauty and severity.
As morning unfolds
The sun engulfed gray and white
Heavenly down of delicate snowflake
Falls unthinkingly, coming to life.
The trees unabashed,
Take down the fall colors they adorned
Welcoming gentle, flaky icicles
To ornament their winter look of the year.
My eyes that take in
Picture frames of snowfall
So unlike and like rain, carrying
Tranquil silence amidst everyday noise.
With the soft taps of snow on the shoulder
Flurries resting on my hairlike beads
I catch a tiny crystal on my finger,
Only to see it disappear with touch.
Tiny moments like these
Seem so much like a trick of time
How fast images vanish into thin air
Not waiting our hearts to capture inside.
Looking up at the unchanging sky
The clouds' snowy tears of joy
Every icicle seems a remnant of time
The magic only fleeting until you preserve it.
I understand today
How snow soft as feathers
Brings wisps of realization
To traveling souls high and low.
Time is a snowflake
An entity that comes and goes
Silently giving, and taking
Receiving and rewarding.
