Blog! Blog! Blog!

I read Twilight for the first time

I was going through the Kindle store, looking for something new to read, when I saw Twilight on the recommended list. I bought it. I never got into Twilight when I was younger, which is a bit weird because I’m really into vampires, and to be honest, I was a total fangirl in middle school (still I am), so it seems like Twilight would have been a perfect saga for little me to get into. But I didn’t. My first time watching the first movie was last year, and only because a friend was shocked when I told her I never seen the films. I didn’t really get the hype, truthfully, I couldn’t stop thinking about the many memes that came from Twilight. I did get the hype after reading the first book, however.

From the start, I didn’t expect much; I thought it would follow the same plot as the movie – and it did, apart from some minor differences. As I got deeper into the story, I found myself really into it. I would read it on the train, bus, between classes, during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It completely consumed me. I think I would have read it nonstop if I didn’t have any classwork. I think the reason why I got so into it was that the way it was written made it easy to put myself in Bella’s place; it kinda read like a fanfiction, in all of the best ways. I know it sounds super cheesy, but I couldn’t help but kick my feet whenever Edward did anything even close to romantic. I also think that it’s a nice thought that there’s this dangerous person, and you’re the one he wants to be with, even if it pains him how dangerous he is to you. That’s probably one of the reasons why Twilight got so huge.

On a more silly note, near the end of the book, when Bella is getting targeted by a seeker vampire and the Cullens make a big plan to keep her safe, I couldn’t stop thinking about her poor dad. From his perspective, the last few days must have been huge emotional whiplash for him. I mean, one day his daughter tells him she's dating Edward Cullen, after telling him she wasn’t interested in any boys, that same day she goes to meet Edward’s family, but comes home yelling at Edward to leave her alone. Dude is probably thinking Edward hurt Bella, and now he's got to kill him. Then, as he goes to comfort his daughter, she starts yelling at him and says that she hates this town and wants to leave, and she does leave… to another state.  He doesn’t hear from her for a while, and when he does, it's someone telling him that she had an accident, fell down the stairs, and out a window. Finally, when she wakes up, she ends up telling him that she wants to stay in Forks. How did he not go completely gray in the hair after all of this? The man probably aged 10 years from all of that stress.

While reading this, I also realized that if vampires were real, I would totally, 100% would want to be one. Maybe it’s because I’m a huge introvert, but I find the whole loner vampire, only comes out at night vibe to be so intriguing, and I think fangs are super cool.  I also thought about what age would be ideal to turn into a vampire. I personally think the perfect age would be 25 years old. At 25, you’re old enough to do all of the legal stuff like drinking, your brain is fully developed, and you get taken seriously, but you’re also still young enough to have that you’re still in your prime (looks-wise).

When I finished reading the book, I came to the conclusion that middle school me would have really loved Twilight, and if I could go back in time, I would force all of the books and movies onto little me. I will be going to the library and checking out the next book in the series, and I will be spending the next few days consuming vampire media.

This week’s blog is a bit more of a ramble, but I still hope you enjoyed it!!
