My Fall TBR

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love fall. Pumpkin spice chai, sweaters, orange leaves, cozy fall media, Halloween, and, of course, books (which is an all-year-round thing for me). Now that it is officially September and the start of the -ber months, I am in full fall mode. To help me get into that cozy fall vibe, here are some books I want to read this season.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

I have been wanting to read this book for a while now. I feel like To Kill A Mockingbird is one of those books everyone reads in school, but none of my classes in high school ever had this book as a required reading, so now I’m requiring myself to read it. I have also read online that some readers consider this a fall book because the final action scene happens during Halloween. 

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

When I think of fall, I think of vampires, and when one thinks of vampires, of course one of the first things to come to mind is Twilight. I consume so much vampire media that I have no idea how I’ve never read the Twilight Saga. I picked up the first book earlier in the year, and when I finished it, I decided to hold off on reading the rest of the books until fall. Now fall is here, and I will be picking up the rest of the saga and watching each movie after reading its book.

The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling

I first heard about this book from someone describing it as a medieval book with cannibalistic queer nuns. I added it to my TBR list right then and there. Basically, this story is about a castle that has been under siege for 6 months, and the people in there are starving, when suddenly their food supply is replenished as 3 nuns arrive at the castle. This is more of a horror, gothic book, so I’m planning on reading it once Halloween is closer. I definitely have high expectations for this one.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

I heavily associate the Brontë sisters with fall. Most of the stuff they have written falls into that moody, gothic fall vibe. Last year I read Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (which is the perfect book for fall), and this year I’m giving Charlotte a chance with Jane Eyre. This book has fall vibes because it has aspects of gothic romance, isolation, and mystery. This will be my slow read of the season since it is a classic and I usually need more time with older books.

As a girl who knows what she likes, I’m a very big media re-consumer. I can rewatch/reread my favorite books, movies, and shows so many times without getting tired of them ever. The next couple of books are some I’m considering rereading this fall.

Babel by R.F Kuang

It’s a crime that I discovered this book during the spring because I know the autumn weather and mood would have made this book so much better. This book has that dark academic vibe that is very much fall-coded. I recommend this book to everyone and anyone. I have yet to hear one bad thing about this book. Also really loved the whole fantasy aspect of this book

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

This may seem like an odd book to put in a fall reading list, but my reasoning makes sense (at least to me it does). Sunrise on the Reaping is the latest addition to the Hunger Games series. This time we are told about Haymitch’s game. There aren't really any fall vibes in this book, BUT the movie does come out in November, and that’s enough fall vibes for me. I definitely want to read this book again before going to see the movie. 

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

If you search for fall reading lists on any social media platform, I can guarantee that The Secret History is on most of the lists. This book is another dark academic book but with more thriller vibes. I read this book last year, but I read it so quickly that I can’t really remember most of the book. I remember really enjoying it. If I do end up reading this again, I will make sure to really take my time because what’s the point of reading if you can’t remember anything you read.

So that’s my little list of books I want to read this fall. I hope you guys are just as excited about fall as I am. This hot weather we got this week is making my craving for sweater weather stronger.
