Jake Bugg’s Rise to Fame

A hip, young folk/indie artist is making his way to the top with his unique sound that combines his spoken influence from The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and The Everly Brothers. Jake Bugg, who just turned 21 in February, began playing guitar at age 12 and started writing songs soon after. It wasn’t until 2011 that he got noticed. In 2011, Bugg was chosen to play on BBC’s intro stage at the Glastonbury Festival. He was only 17 at the time, but this one event led to his contract with Mercury Records. Can you imagine? 17 and a contract with Mercury Records? Sounds mad!

He has said before that the moment he knew he wanted to pursue music was when he heard Don McLean singing “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)” on an episode of The Simpsons. He had been attending Farnborough School Technology College and was taking a course on music technology when he dropped out to pursue his own music.

When told that his voice and style resembles Bob Dylan, Bugg replies, “Bob Dylan’s cool, you know, he’s great, but he’s not a major influence.” I don’t know about you, but if anyone compared me to Bob Dylan, I would gladly accept that compliment. However, Bugg continues to write and states that he does not need to win awards to feel inspired to write. That is how it should be.

His debut album was released in October 2012 and was featured in the film The Fault in Our Stars. He then released his second album Shangri La in November 2013 and is currently working on a third album.

He was recently in Chicago on tour (December 2014), and his tour continues through this year. Hopefully, well to be honest, most likely he will be coming back soon. So, make sure to keep up to date on the travels of Jake Bugg and his folk/indie musical vibes that have caused an uproar of new talent to strike. More information about Jake Bugg’s tours, gigs, or music can be found on his website, here. Be sure to like his page of Facebook, as well, here. Who knows, he might just be the big thing (or is he already?).
