K-pop Demon Hunters?!

I never thought I would ever write about this, but guys, omg, "my little soda pop" has been all over my Instagram reels?!! IT IS SO ANNOYING but lowkey... catchy....So my friends and I decided to watch it for giggles.

K-pop Demon Hunters is currently one of Netflix's most-watched films with 236 million views around the world. They also have a sing-along version! But what is this movie? And is it worth the hype? This movie is not just a regular K-pop movie; it actually has a good story to it. (spoilers ahead)

This movie revolves around the K-pop girl group "Huntrix" with three girls, Mira, Zoey, and Rumi. The purpose of this group is to secretly harness music to fight demons threatening their fans but later on the movie a boy band joins called the Saja Boys, they sing "soda pop" lol and they are a demon boy band.

These are elements of the movie that I enjoyed. Rumi's character struggles with her identity because she is half demon, half hunter. She hides the demon part of herself because everyone around her hates demons and is trying to kill them, but this is so much more than demons and hunters. We all have a side of ourselves we fear or get insecure about showing others, maybe because it doesn't conform to the trends of society. Sometimes we get shy to express ourselves for this reason.

Demons are the villains of this movie, but the origin story of Jinu is also what stuck with me. Jinu wanted to have that perfect public image, or at least that is what his demon wanted for him, so he left his family behind to get wealthy and run away from poverty. You can see Jinu's pain throughout the movie and how he just wants his memories erased and escape his demon, but unfortunately, that does not happen. :(

Overall, I did enjoy this movie, maybe because I watched it with my friends and we enjoyed it together. It has a good story, and I really like the animations for Netflix. Though it is more of a kid's movie, it really isn't as cringeworthy as I thought it would be.
