Lingering Thoughts Penned by A Saturday

Silver lined white embroidered into the sky

The sun peeking through these makeshift windows,

We walked down the college paths

Young souls at the pinnacle of life.

Never a time without

Laughter and humor,

tainted with dad-joke energy

And budding friendship.

Purple and orange leaflets

Swaying to the autumn wind

Welcome the arrival

Of the fall ball.

The chill in the breeze

Meets the warmth of sunburst

The leaves dress up for the ball

Before leaving for the long winters.

Beauty all around

Yet everyday down similar roads,

Past the same lecture halls

Where did the pretty picture go?

For minds racing

And hearts chasing dreams

In the quest for success,

Happiness, and fulfillment,

For the souls that run

On a path meant for walking,

For stumbling, crawling,

And getting back up,

For a world that spins

Rather than turn,

For scenery that scurries past

Rather than cherished.

The pretty views around us always

Disappear from our line of sight

For our focus lies at the end of the line

Never along.

Perhaps,

We are on a train

Swift as a bullet

Speeding past beauty and misery

Perhaps,

It isn't just the projects,

Duties, studies and tasks

That deserve encomiums

It is also sonder,

The azure as nature's canvas

The scurrying squirrels

And chirping sparrows

The night crickets that sing lullabies,

Slow dance of thistledown,

City lights and skyscraper highs,

Fall colors and the lakefront.

Why do we keep waiting

For days of prosperity

Tinted with joyous yellow

And merry pink,

Why wait to use the colors you want

To paint the path to take you

To the place of eternal colors

You always wished for?

For it is only

When the colors meet your canvas

That they stay and accompany

Bringing the warmth of others around.

Each day,

We wake up

To each their own purpose

Pushing through said tiring days

While in other nooks

A soul passes away in sleep

While others wake

In fear along the sidelines.

What a miracle

To have so much

To chase for what you want,

And yet want much more.

Living in the present,

Realize that elegance and happiness

Live with us every day with content

If we choose to live with them.
