Niko Rubio is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter who does a phenomenal job at incorporating her Mexican-Salvadorian-American roots into her music. She has been writing music since she was 16 years old . She debuted back in 2021 with her first ever EP called Wish You Were Here and has been unstoppable since. Over spam of five years, she has released a total of five EPs , her newest one being Sunday Girl.

She's truly a mastermind when it comes to blending and fusing sounds and genres together. When Listening to her discography, you can hear the distinctive sounds of Traditional Mexican Ranchera , 90s Alterntiave Rock, Modern Indie Pop, and Reggae. In my opinion the two EPs that perfectly demonstrate this are the following:

  1. Mar Y Tieraa (2024)

Mar y Tierra is Niko's third EP but it's the first and only all Spanish Ep she currently has. It was released on September 20th, 2024. Throughout the EP she showcases her ability to blend Traditional Mexican Music, Latin Pop, with a hint of Alternative Rock. Because of this, it often gets high praise from her listeners.

  1. Sunday Girl

Sunday Girl is her latest EP release that came out this past Friday on April 24th, 2026 making it her fifth one. Throughout it she showcases her ability to blend Reggae with Alternative Indie which has caught the attention of many listeners. This album not only shows her musical growth but also her personal growth. It's clear Niko Rubio feels more comfortable exploring themes about sex, heartbreak, and self-expression/identity.

Wait....Do you- Do you hear that...?

RING RING

OMG The Sunday Girl Tour is calling!

So let's talk about Niko Rubio's performance at Beat Kitchen from this past Monday, April 27th, 2026.

This wasn't Niko's first time performing in the Windy City. The first time performing in Chicago was back in 2022 at Lollapalooza, and then again on November 2025 as an opener for The Two Lips .

I actually got to see her open for The Two Lips and her performance made me a fan right on the spot! So I was really excited when she announced that she would be coming back to Chicago to headline her first tour ever.

Niko Rubio truly knows how to put on a show. Even when she lost her voice the day prior, she still sounded angelic. And yes, her mic was ON! She was accompanied by Adrian Cohen on the guitar.

The small space of Beat Kitchen and the ambient lighting created an intimate space for the audience. Niko sharing personal stories about her music and experiences in between songs also added to the intimate connection she was building with her audience . It started to feel like she was just another close friend that you grew up with. A story that really stood out to be was about the time she went to Mexico City to write music with another artist, which then inspired her to create songs in Reggae.

Out of all the Reggae songs that she performed live, Ring Ring was my favorite one and I think it's safe to that it was also one of the crowds favorites. I say that because it got everyone to dance around which made Niko smile so many times during her performance. Her stage presence was so admirable. She was singing every lyric with so much passion. With every cheer the crowd let out, Niko's confidence grew.

Her stage presence was so admirable. She was singing every lyric with so much passion. It's always a pleasure to be able to tell when an artist enjoys performing their music. It's also lovely when they interact with their fans. Niko would lock eyes with someone from the crowd and sing to them. Sometimes she would even get low to be closer to them. Another highlight of the night was when Niko brought up a fan on stage to be her Sunday Girl during her Sunday Girl performance.

The whole night was memorable. My favorite songs that she performed were;

  1. Mine ( Sunday Girl EP)

  2. Sunday Girl ( Sunday Girl EP)

  3. Ring Ring (Ring Ring EP)

  4. no te vayas (un millón de besos EP)

  5. Quisiera Saber (Ring Ring EP)

On April 27th , 2026, Niko Rubio proved that she deserves more recognition for her incredible talent. She's a hidden gem on the path to being discovered and again, she's an incredibly talented Latina artist.

With her creative lyricism, melodies, and artistic visions, this singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is someone you that SHOULD be on your radar.

Chicago loves Niko Rubio so much because we all went to see her during a rain storm and tornado warning .

I know the next time she comes back to Chicago, I'll be there and I hope to see you there too. In the meantime, I'll be listening to Sunday Girl on repeat. Until next time :)
