Some Lessons from My Summer

I did not have a summer vacation in the typical sense. The day after finals in May, I jumped straight into “real life.” I worked five days a week and studied for the LSAT in my free time, determined to take the test by the end of summer. It was exhausting but affirming. It gave me confidence in the future I’m working toward.

Amid all the work and responsibilities, I realized life was moving fast, and so was I. I still had another semester of undergrad and perhaps should prioritize that. I had time. Taking a gap year didn’t have to be scary, it could be freeing. As someone who hates changing plans, this was a huge lesson. Plans can change, and that’s okay.

Around me, life was shifting too. My siblings moved to different states to start new journeys, and while I miss them, I couldn’t be prouder. My roommate and best friend moved in with her boyfriend which taught me to accept that relationships grow and evolve.

I also adopted a second cat because I simply can't be stopped. This showed me that taking responsibility for things I love is something I can handle as I build my own little support system away from my parents and home.

Now, as I get further into my last semester of undergrad, I try to remember the lessons I learned this summer. I feel less scared and more excited. This summer taught me that change isn’t something to fear, but something to embrace as we all grow and change.
