The Beauty of the Two Week Minecraft Phase

When you see memes about Minecraft on social media, talk about it with friends, or even watch commentary about the game online, as many fans of the popular block game like to do, one phrase is consistent in its use by fans, originating in the late 2010's during the game's 2018-2019 resurgence in popularity. This phrase is "Two Week Minecraft Phase", and it is one that has described my history of the game to a 'T', and encapsulates what makes the game so timeless.

"Two Week Minecraft Phase" describes the cycle in which Minecraft fans do not usually play the game at a standard pace but instead become completely obsessed with it for a short period of time, characterized as two weeks, before forgetting about it entirely for months or even years afterwards. This meme describes what a psychiatrist might call a 'temporary hyperfixation', a temporary but all-consuming obsession with a niche interest that someone with a neurodivergence like Autism or ADHD might occasionally have depending on neurological variables.

I've -probably mentioned this on the blog before, so stop me now, but I myself am autistic, which makes this description of the game's appeal hit home especially; it emphasizes why Minecraft is so appealing to neurodivergent people, as it can be played in innumerably different ways thanks to its unique seeding system and procedurally generated worlds that never get old, as well as the massive breadth of fan-made modifications that add extra flair, fun, and challenge to the game.

The 'Two Week Minecraft Phase' shows why it feels so fresh to return to Minecraft after a multi-month break, as well; with the variety in ways the game can be played, starting a new world, or save, every 'phase' instead of working on one world continuously, it genuinely feels like a whole new game every time you restart.

All in all, I wrote this article mostly because I myself am having my annual 'Two Week Minecraft Phase'. Below is a pic of my current base; tell me if you like it, or you hate it.
