Hailing from the West, stemming from the G Funk shavings of Dr. Dre The M Machine’s newest EP is the one of the hottest EPs out there. They are playing at the Mid Thursday 1/29. The M Machine Crosses boundaries between Progressive House, Deep House and Nudisco
The G House textures in their titled song off the EP “Just Like” dances across the poorly constructed line between Deep House and Big Room. The intro serves not only as an intro for the song, but also for the album. The vocals are very comedic, yet still harmonic with the melodies playing. The drop is very sudden, but that is the flair it’s going for!
Their second song, “Don’t Sneak” takes with the progressive house’s use of the pluck and turn it into something dreamy. The sounds of dreamy pop fill the spaces between the chords. The panning between left and right are used convincingly sparing, The climb and the drop are compliments of each other. Neither bigger or more alerting as one another. The funky vocals really add a nice disco feel. The last climb and drop is what stuck out to me the most.
Getting “Over/Love” is surely not an easy thing, In a midst of a heartbreak The M Machine’s third track would definitely be something I’d play. The horn used is overpowering, and I do feel that because it’s a slower song the loudness of the synth sometimes hogs the audio space.
“Pluck Pluck” poses the question “is it ever bad to have too much bass?” The melody, though repetitive, is used well in the first drop. Cutting out the last beat adds a swings the measure if barely. The use of the vocals makes it sound more expiremental and dark. While I am a fan of darker tones and textures I feel that “Pluck Pluck” may lose more casual listeners of electronic music.
The last track called “So Change” has a chord progression that starts off stale. But as the song continues it serves little more than a reference point for the song. The beginning notes seems to repeat too often. The use of vocals in “So Change” is weaker than the other songs. The cllimb and descent is definitely a good transition. I can already here bootlegs and edits coming now that focus on that aspect.
Their EP sounds fantastic! I am very excited for their performance later tonight! Their funky blend of House and big room inspired progressive electro is a true staple to the evolving scene!
